It is rather early, however, sometimes, people here put lights up early because this is the only time the weather permits( we only have two seasons in Michigan: Winter and July), just lights, though, and they don't usually turn them on this early(unless somebody has a last minute party for whatever, we're always looking for an excuse to party!!) I don't really care what they do, it's so damn cold here at the "appropriate lighting time", sometimes, I just use indoor lighting, or a single candle(battery operated) in each window, that's really pretty, what's really annoying is those big, humongous, scary- azz looking reproductions of Santa, hey, I have seen some downright sacrilegious recreations of the Nativity, OMG, some people go off the deep end...So what, who cares, really, as long as people are trying to make themselves happy, don't hate, OK?? The decorations are harmless, try taking care of what's left of people that decide to be suicidal early, prior to the season, getting a head start on depression before the holidays cause they're lonely and psychotic, or the people they hurt or killed because they were broke, and on crack, and living a miserable fv(ked-up life....Imagine that, baby, and those early decorations won't phase you at all..and that's real...

I always go to the shops too late. I go in December, only to be told all the decorations have gone, "sold in October"....strange, and I thought Christmas was December.
No, I don't have my tree up, might not bother because I'm not at home.....but last year received a Christmas card in September!!!!
I don't normally go over the top anyway, the room looks so bare when they come down. It's just a tree, and tinsel, with plenty candles and cards around the room......mmmmm...can't wait now.

I love Christmas but November is way too early to have decorations up, surely people must be sick of looking at them by the time its Christmas.

I haven't got mine up, nor do I put them up before mid-December because I get bored with them very quickly.
But the reason why people celebrate Christmas is because it was a pagan winter festival. And winters in the UK are so miserable, you can see why people need something to give them a lift.
I draw the line at Christmas decorations, but I'd love to see more outdoor lights, etc twinkling in the dark.

There is no way I will be putting any decorations up, not even a tree. I hate Christmas.

There are some very sad people about. Decorations are for Christmas. I have always put ours up on Christmas Eve, and when the children were small it was done after they went to bed. That way they are part of the magic (and they don't harbour so much dust!).

I think it's just show off people with nothing better to do.
Maybe the same ones who go buy lots of presents and expensive, but don't really care if the person likes it or/and needs it.
Great point, good question.
Oh and my birthday it's in November so even worse to concentrate on Christmas already he he.
Edit:
Sugar Jane I'm flattered, kisses and hugs for you.

It doesn't bother me, though I find it a bit odd. The powers that be keep moving the mention of the holidays earlier every year, Walmart already has Christmas stuff out, and as long as it is available, people want to beat the crowds. Pretty soon, the stuff will be just as available as a loaf of bread.

Yeah gets sickening alright. My own policy is lights can go up after Thanksgiving, and down at least withing a couple weeks of New Years Day (depending on the weather, but New Years Eve is the last time we turn them on). The tree we put up a week or two into December, and sometimes we take it down already on the 26 or 27th.
