I am currently a bank teller and have been for 5 months. The job is very easy and I like it. I'm currently making $10.50/hr working part time (20-30 hrs/wk). I applied for another job last month at a fortune 500 company at their world headquarters. I wasn't really looking for another job but I saw this one and applied for it. It pays $13/hr and is a full time (40 hr) position. I would be an E- Center Specialist.

Both jobs are literally next door to each other. They both offer great benefits but I'm covered under my husbands insurance anyway. What would you do? I really like my current job but this one pays more. I'm worried that I may not like the new job as much though. Thats the main issue that I'm having.

Help!!

I should add-- I have a bachelors degree in psychology and am starting my masters degree in social work next semester. Neither of these jobs are the field that I plan to stay in.

Money isn't everything, and apparently neither job is in the field you ultimately want to wind up in. If you don't need the increased pay and benefits, then you should look at your over all quality of life. The additional hours and pay would be nice if you're saving up for a house or something like that, but you are still in school, and have a work burden there, too. The question is whether the additional pay, hours and benefits out weigh the sacrifices you would have to make with respect to your home life, and your studies, if the answer is yes, then go ahead, but if it is more important to you and your husband that you keep up your studies, and have some time together at home, then keep the job you already have and like........If the increased responsibility and hours would keep you from acheiving you stated career goals, you should keep focused on what you really want to become, if you don't need the money... if you do need the money, then you might be willing to make a few sacrifices to help the household, and hopefully your husband is as well....

I think you should take the opportunity that was offered to you. Look at it this way....Why did you apply for the job? There had to be a reason in the back of your head and now that it was offered to you your not sure what you want! Working for a fortune 500 company can bring you a great opportunity to move up quickly, make a lot of money and a variety. Working for a bank is a lot less to talk about then a fortune 500 company. You owe it to yourself to take this opportunity because god has given you a chance and is waiting for you to decide what you want to do with it. I'd say go for it...You have to try new challenges and opportunities. :)

Well you would be going from part time to full time, so you could end up pretty stressed out which would stress your husband out too.
Have you spoken with your husband? He may like you to take the extra money, or he may prefer it if you were working less hours so you can take care of the house.
Also at the job you are at now you have friends, if you change you will have to make new ones and learn your job in a new setting with different rules and systems.
I would say to stay where you are, but it depends on how money is right now and what sort of relationship you have with your partner - whatever you do will effect him.
Good luck.

I worked for a bank for 9yrs & I'm so glad thats behind me. Yes working for a bank does offer alot of great choices & benefits, but it also comes along with stress & unnecessary pressure. As you move up the corporate ladder (cause eventually you'll thrive for more especially in that industry) you'll start to feel the pressure of it all. Being a teller isn't all that it cracks up to be, especially on your hourly rate. If you haven't already starting wondering "Is today the day your bank gets robbed", you will in time - trust me. You have to weigh it up really & make a choice. Personally I'd take the $13 job because its more safer & its more money. $10.50 to put your life on the line - is that really worth it!

Its never easy having to make changes, but sometimes changes is the best thing in life.

if money is more important take the $13 one. if it is not as important keep your current job. u can work less hours at the current job and you may get a promotion. ask ur boss if he would giv u a week off and ask the other boss for the other company if he wud giv u a weeks trial or something like that. Hope i helped. Gud luck!!!

I would talk to my boss at the bank, and tell them about the other offer. If you are doing good work, and they want to keep you, the bank will probably give you a raise, or more hours, or both.

And if you plan to continue working for several years, the new job likely would offer more opportunities for growth and promotion and more pay.

LOL, im in the same position, but ive decided to go for the new post as it offers more and it would be a new expereince, but im gonna miss the comfort of my present role and all the nice colleagues ive been lucky enough to work with. But in the end, whether you are happy or not matters most

Try it. Because the future is what's important. Just don't forget the 8 hour law. Use only 8 hours to work. Overtime is not recommended, since it may give stress and cancer.

Consider going full time on that first job.
Got you there.

the main question is, do you want to work longer hours for a start. It aint that great, its on 2.50 per hour more. Maybe your present company would give you more hours, or more money, you could try! I wouldnt be leaving a job I loved if I was unsure of the new one.
Good luck anyway,.

you should take the one you like the most because otherwise everyday if u pick one u wont like you'll be waking up and wishing u didn't have to go to work but if u keep your current one then u will be really happy going to work and the other one only pays like £2 more so id pick the one you like the most
