i notice that babies seem to enjoy rap, hip hop and R&B songs better

yeah like the first guy said it could be the drum beat and the base they hear. Also I know for toddlers that just learn to talk they like songs that repeat words alot. And hip hop has alot of that in there choruses. I remember when usher had the song Yeah...my litttle cousin LOVED the song just because she could sing along singing yeah yeah yeah

I remember reading somewhere that babies/toddlers like popular music more than classical music, they prefer more pulsing faster sounds than the more subtle beats from classical music. I think it's because the drum beat reminds them of their mother's heartbeat or something. Perhaps they enjoy 'urban' music more because the beat (especially the bass) is stronger. Try some trance or electronic music (where the bass is even MORE strong) and see if they prefer that more.
