One can help the community in his own ways. Entering the government is a popular way of doing it, though people highly doubt that it is their main motive especially high officials. Others, particularly the rich, choose to be away from the government and from politics. They help the community in their own ways by using their resources, their money.

Who is better? The one who is in the government (not rich) or the rich man? Why?

Moreover, others, though rich, still enter the government. What do you think is the reason for this?

FYI... don't you know that Senators in the Philippines earns millions of pesos (allowance) in a year merely from being a member of a committee? if you could recall, during the last campaign period for the senatorial race, isn't it that the spending of one senator merely for campaigns soared to hundreds of million? can you believe that? and they claim that the Philippines is poor? Wow.. If only those millions of pesos showered to the common Juan Dela Cruz...

Wow, going to your question... I say the rich man is better in helping in the community. At least even if the money they gave away in charity is minimal as compared to their hidden wealth, at least they gave... but for the government official, Juan dela Cruz pays them to serve... It is Juan dela Cruz who gives them the fund to spend and shame on them if they say that it is them who are helping Juan dela Cruz. It is a very very wrong notion among us Filipinos to look up at government officials. It should be the other way around. Who's to blamed? Juan dela Cruz..........

People who spend their own money usually spend more carefully than government so there is less waste. He will spend on what he wants, which will not necessarily meet the needs of the community, for example he might build a recreation center, instead of a school needed to relieve over crowding. A elected government official is more likely to spend on what people want because they want to be re-elected. There is room for both, but if I had to chose I would chose to have government officials making the decisions because his career depends on the good will of the voters. I tend to distrust the motives of the very rich, who claim they want to serve the public, and do not use their own resources to do so.
