I got the infection today. Spent 10 hours searching for help.Nearly going to format my harddisk. Yet, finally, i solved it. What i did is:
1. Using IE7, go to Tools->Manage Add-ons->Enable or Disable add-ons
2. The message pop-up was due to either of these 2 add-ons:
1) Name: Add Task Class , File:Webhost.dll
2) Name: BetaDivX, File: bDivx.dll
I am not sure which one is the real evil. What i did is i disabled both.
3. Reboot your computer
4. And I am a free man now.
Don't give up your hope, if problem still not solved, wait for a few hours, and people will come up a better crack. Cheers

I just had this exact problem 30 minutes ago. I think its the activex add on with internet explorer that caused this. I fixed it by doing a system restore.
Just go to Start
then All Programs
then Accessories
then System tools and then System Restore, just a date earlier than the day you got this problem, and that will fix it.

Also, If you really need to work on something using browser and you want to do system restore later. Just download firefox browser and use that.

System restore will help in such issues when program infects your browser or other things. so always try to see if it can be fixed with that instead of going to download other programs or working the registry. Hope this helps. Peace!

I got the same problem, is with Internet Explorer 7 in Vista. You nay have gotten this as an add-on. I don't know in XP but in vista you can run IE7 without add-ons and the problem disappear, but yet I need to remove it and go back to regular use of IE7. IE7 has something called add-on Manager that you can use to remove or de-activate add-ons, in my case the add-on manager crashes. You may be able to uninstall (fully) and install IE7 again in XP, I cannot do that in Vista. Be careful with trying other "malware/spyware cleaners"... reply the note please if you get to fix it!!

I am using XP. Went to folder windows/system32. Tracked which files were changed on date of infection. Renamed the 3 files with IED in front to identify them. Problem solved - no more pop-ups in IE7.

In my case the 3 files were:
sysinit32
IntelVideoDivX.dll
sysinit32.exe

Another user posted this and it helped me end days of trying to remove iedefender.exe and the popup that is almost impossible to remove and major spyware software so far can't find it. Look in the search section and cut and paste this:

IR9V0_QCX.dll

When you find it, delete it and / or erase it. All the problems ended when I deleted this file.

IEDefender may hijack your browser with www.iedefender.com, claiming to download IEDefender fake malware remover. After you install this rogue anti-spyware (also may be installed in stealth mode through system security holes) it would allege to detect spyware in an attempt to convince you into purchasing IEDefender’s full version. IEDefender is not legitimate spyware remover, in addition it shows popups, open browser security holes to install other parasites. This software may slow your computer and cause system errors.
Manual removal instructions are here:

I got infected by iedefender 3days ago. Finally removed it with Adware Away. Paid $33.90. I am glad it worked. Don't use Spyware Doctor. It cannot remove it.
