Is a local rate number. just like our 0845 numbers in the UK.
LOCAL RATE.
Obviously it's an international number so from the UK would cost more than 5p per minute if you don't have a wireless internet connection with free internationals...
Also, it is a number for Spainish, Portuguese & North Africans to call locally. If Madeleine was spotted in say, Belgium, I am sure the person reporting it would not be worried about 5pence a minute. Think about it.. would 5pence a minute bother you if you saw Maddy?

I think the purpose for a NEW number is to encourage people that it is completely confidential. Some police forces (not mentioning any) are corrupt aren't they, so maybe they want to reassure anyone who knows stuff, that its a direct line to them.

normal BT call rates are 3.5p a minute anyway. what's 1.5pence to anyone?
Please. Some of you will not relent or show any compassion for this little girl.. I can't get my head around it.

Intel. IF the PJ's already know why hasn't ANY action been taken? They know NUFFINK.
SIX MONTHS Madeleine has been lost. SIX MONTHS! And you think the PJ's have it sewn up! You are laughable.

its a stupid idea, police are available to be phoned 24/7, no need for a hotline.
if the caller wants confidentiality they can phone anonymously on a pay phone, still no need for the hotline.send a anonymous letter, theres plenty of options.

Yes I agree with Wish List, there are plenty of lines ie; Crime stoppers, Portuguese Police, Spanish Police etc opened to the people who may suspect they have seen Madeleine McCann.
I really don't think this is right, as I have said it before to charge people for reporting sightings or have some knowledge which the money is split between the provider and the client, namely the McCanns (Fund).

0845 numbers are not Local Rate rate numbers.
They are a clever marketing ploy by BT they are infact Lo-Call rate numbers.
These are numbers that provide a standard call charge to the caller whereever in the UK you call from. But not at a Local rate. The owner of the number does make an income from the number.

or it could be the certain source of the birth place of hundreds more potential sighting of Madeleine to create the impression OMG she may be still so the parents were innocent of her death after all A well executed P.R stunt but still not good enough.
and to add insult to injury the costs of this P.R campaign is being paid for from the child's fund money ,,, they are robbing the poor child even after her death and they being the ones who are responsible for that

Why set up a local rate number, half of which is going into K&G's mortgage fund when you can call crimestoppers for FREE and know the information is going to go straight to the police?

If I thought I knew where Madeleine was, I would pay anything. Or any other missing child. Money doesn't come into it.
To the person above: how many people are going to phone that number, with real sightings of the child. And a small charge might make hoaxers think twice.

5p is a lot to some North Africans. I think they will just get a lot of calls from people saying they saw a 4 year old blonde girl who looks like Maddy - but it will just be tosh.

What we would like to pay to report a sighting of Madeleine is totally irrelevant.
The fact that the parents WOULD LIKE TO CHARGE is a totally different matter.

Why would I phone this number to tell them what the PJ already know?
Another scandalous use of corporate scaming the EU public....clearly the Team McCann are undermining the judicial process by running their own investigation - this could be construed as PERVERTING THE COURSE OF JUSTICE if they fail to pass on information to the proper judicial authorities.

Isn't this getting a little out of control?! Has it ever occurred to people how many missing or murdered children there are in the world? Have their parents or guardians received all this media attention and a visit with the Pope?! Let's get some perspective, okay?
