As the family unit expands, the overall control by the family also grows! If you have family in power positions but also on the outskirts of the society itself, say in farming, you have social ties to multifaceted sections of the population. As long as the family relations remain strong & in good standing with the common people, your ability to control & shape the direction of the population ensure a common goal. This is the cohesion which all societies seek!

Good luck!
