"i mean as a beautiful person" and "i know Madeleine was very happy with her life", Kate McCann talking about her daughter, sounds to me the kind of words more likely used to describe an adult or young adult not a child of Madeleine's years.

Toi-et-m... in this context i think it would be taken as "given" that any or every child of this age is "beautiful", why the need to publically state it? and in such an odd way, by implication meaning children of this age are capable of being anything but beautiful.

Mimkat......fine you say? so you accept 3-4year olds can be "beautiful" inside therefore you must accept the opposite ie ugly inside, you tell me what kind of society makes that kind of judgement on children?

all children are beautiful so there should never be any reason to say this about one child the most beautiful thing that the human eyes can see is "Innocence" and all children are born with this

Yes, it's appropriate. A child's personality is already starting to show at about 3 months.
I don't have any idea how old Madeleine is but the child does not have to be very old for a parent to recognize when they have a happy child and when they don't.
As for someone like me that has no idea how old Madeleine is or was it may have been a little more appropriate to add the "young" word in-between beautiful and person in that first quote.
If a person is being interviewed they are going to make mistakes like that but if it's written in a book you have time to correct for these kinds of little over-sites.

I think this is part of the reason people find the McCanns so odd. The choice of words sounds odd, their behaviour, their moods, the whole thing seems a bit weird. I find their obsession with media and image a little bizarre.

No need to split hairs. I have heard it put this way: there are two emotions. One feels good and the other feels bad. Either can become habitual. The negative one leads to disease. If one habitually feels good about oneself, feeling bad about anything or anyone else will by contrast be shocking. The brain not knowing anything about time or about imagination reacts to shocks to its programs by making efforts to correct the situations. These we call symptoms. To love one's enemy means to eliminate negative emotions as soon as possible due to the harmfull effects of not doing so. The best way to do this is to visualize or imagine that the wanted state of mind already exists, enjoy the ensuing positive emotions or feelings and allow those to become habitual. The resistance disappears and health returns. Cheers.

I have to agree with the usage of the word was she should have said Madelan is a very happy child. Seeing her child as a person isn't a bad thing but yes I agree that using was is a bad choice of words leaves one to think hmm does she know something more about her daughters disapperance than what we know..hmmm!

It made me think of all the children who have been killed by paedophiles, and that being a beautiful person has nothing to do with it. I found it uncomfortable.

Her daughter was a happy child. That's all she meant.
Analysing her every word isn't going to make her and more'less of a mother. Leave the woman alone. She is obviously now adjusting to the idea of never seeing her daughter again. You try and imagine that.
What do you expect her to say? "Madelaine was a terrible kid who got right on our nerves and we're glad to see the back of her"? Leave the woman alone.
