No racism intended but I can tell you are of Asian probably Indian or Pakistani nationality by the way you use the English language.

To answer your "question" this was the best country on earth until mass immigration ruined it

EDIT:
Truth Seeker, well said, Islam is a complete global failure and I would say most UK people would stop allowing the growing islamification of the UK IF we had a choice.

EDIT: J I H, is plain wrong about UK technology. An honest look at history shows that 71% of global science and technology originated in the UK.I am interested in technology and if you look at new inventions TODAY most are UK inventions.Islam is the UK's problem not UK technology.

The UK has influence for the following reasons;

1) We're rich - (10th based on GNP/capita, and that's after being skewed by countries such as Luxembourg) We're also very technologically advanced, have a high standard of living, and of course are industrialised. There may be a very few countries that are better (in the far east for instance) but they are few, and of course they are the manufacturing base, so such goods will of course be cheaper there. 80% of the world is not so technologically well-endowed.

2) We have a permanent seat on the UN security council - only the US, China, France and Russia also have one; not even powerful, rich and populous countries like Japan or Germany do.

3) We have nuclear weapons

4) Despite being associated with certain disasterous foreign policiy moves, the UK is still largely well-respected and known for being reasonably fair.

5) The UK is not only associated with the US. Far more important in my opinion is the association with the EU, a conglomeration richer and nearly as powerful as the US.

There are many reasons why people should and do pay attention to us. Just because Britannia doesn't rule the waves any more doesn't mean Britain's voice is not heard. Indeed, it is a popular belief in some countries (Iran for instance) that the US is the UK's puppet, not the other way round.

With 750 nukes and good delivery systems? I'm suprised they're not classified a superpower. A bit strapped financially perhaps. That was the reason the empire had to pull back. American Revolution and all. The War of 1812 was ended by treaty because England was financially exhausted from fighting Napoleon. And 11 days after the treaty was signed, Napoleon escaped Elba and they had to deal with him again. WWI and WWII also cutting deep financially. No! I'm quite sure the UK could go it alone without the US. Just that the two have enhanced each other since about 1840. Might they need the US were there another war? Possibly, depending on the enemy. I would expect the US to assist if called upon.

Yes.

I don't think we have anywhere near as much influence. Britain was a fantastic country, it still is in some area's, but in my honest opinion, it is not as good as it was a few decades ago.
Everything just seems to be going wrong and it's making me want to emigrate.
Firstly, mass immigration is completely changing our country. In my opinion, it isn;t changing it in a good way either.
NHS is in a mess, in debt, and the our hospitals are thriving with superbugs that are infecting thousands.
We don't have enough prison's and dangerous prisoners are being released early.
Our justice system is a joke. Did you see those 5 teenagers only got one year in a detention unit for stoning a father to death? What kind is justice is that?
Yobs and gangs now basically control our towns and cities, it is dangerous to go into some places at night without being mugged or stabbed. What do the police do? slap an ASBO on their head.
House prices are absolutely ridiculous and the government is trying to fix this by building hundreds of thousands of homes on FLOOD PLAINS and our very precious greenbelt land in the countryside is even underthreat now.
Britain will soon be one huge, ugly, overcrowded housing estate, where immigrate can come to claim benefits and send back to their relatives in their home country.

Sorry folks, but I'm outta here.

No the US/UK relationship has been mutually beneficial for a long time now.

Any nation that raises a fist to Britain has to realize that the US will also strike back. When someone starts a fight with the US they know they have to deal with the UK as well.

This arrangement hardly makes the other second class.

It is true that our political influence around the globe has been damaged by our (blind) close association with G.W.Bush.
...also because of years of military financial cutbacks our military influence has also suffered....our navy and air force capabilities is a 2nd rate joke that not even Mugabe would feel threatened....In short because Tony Blair cared more about his future pension (by being well liked by the Americans) than about the military and political interests of our country we find ourselves in the mess that we are in.
Having said that....the US is a good political and economic ally....we simply need to focus our political and economic strategy on doing what is good for Brittain regardless of anything else.

If you are a Conservative Christian Englishman who believes in family values and patriotic than yes you are second class who is being pushed aside. It is time there was a united front to get our country back before it is to late and we end up just a region of a socialist super state. I just like to say the fact you are Indian has nothing to do with my answer if you are a citizen of this country you are British i just can't stand what has happened to this country when it comes to political correctness and the way i political class is selling us out to the EU.

Yep...There are areas of Britain economically and statisitically about as poor as moldova and recieve objective one european funding..It should split up and parts of it should go straight into europe, as smaller nations perform brilliantly in Euroland.
