For those of us who had to work. I am so sorry I never had the time to stay home and make jams (jello?), and do more baking than I did. Although I managed a lot anyway. But not like our grandmothers were able to do.

Sometimes I regret that life has become so fast paced that I don't have time to do those and other things. I don't work now but don't seem to have more time. I need to rearrange my priorities, I really do like to cook and bake. Thanks for the reminder.

Oh Ya! I feel like my mom prepared me for a world like hers and then I grew up and it was a different world I was not prepared for. I regret not being able to be at home with warm cookies, or a fresh cake or pie when my kids came home from school. I regret I had to buy the cup cakes for the bake sale! But, my kids think I was and am a great mom, so I guess it worked out ok...I just wish the world was a more like the one I grew up in!

Yeah, it sucks that with all the technology that has made our lives so much easier that we still cannot find the time to do all the housework and chores that our mothers and grandmothers did. Amazing.
I bake every chance I get! In fact I made 24 cookies each of both peanut butter chip AND chocolate chip. I ate about 11 of them in an hour. Only God knows why I'm not 350 lbs.!! (Not that I WANNA be! THANK YOU GOD!!!!)

Let me share something with you....I went through this period of feeling regret and even mentioned it once to one of my grown children - and the response I got really surprised me!
In their eyes I was always there for them and life was good, happy and they felt loved....so in the long run that is all that matters :-)
Unfortunately our laid out plans for how life will be don't always mesh with what actually happens. When detours are necessary to 'make it work' we do what we have to do at the time. Mark my written words...your children have not suffered ! Love is what matters - not the jams ;-)

Yes I am guilty of that although I did teach my son how to cook. Which is a good thing I guess because his wife won't.
The jam and bread making I did teach my grandkids. We even picked the friut.

I've never been very good at baking or jams and such. I wish I was though. I rely on people like you to share the homemade goodies with me.

I was kinda sorry but soon caught on with doing things which I missed during my working life.I think a special chapter of life begins after one retires and it can be made most satisfying and rewarding.I just love it and looking back, wouldn't exchange it with even a full working life.

My mom always worked and I learned a lot helping her out at home. I always wanted to be a stay at home mom/wife, but I had to work too and my daughter helped me out. My daughter now works, so we've each had to balance this with taking care of our homes and families. Mom taught me to cook/bake/clean, etc. and I taught my daughter, so it all worked out for us, even if it's not the way we expected it to be.

No not really. I did a lot of baking as my 4 kids were growing up but Jam making is one thing I did not do!!!
My Mum always made jam and I helped her prepare the fruit but it seemed to me to be such a huge undertaking. I really enjoyed her efforts tho. This commercial store bought stuff just cant compare!!!
