The climactic scene in the canyon..what caused the light show . Was it the Sun's reflection on the minerals and quartz crystals in the canyon?

As the sun was rising it shone on a particular part of the canyon causing multicoloured reflections. As it rose higher behind a tall narrow butte it created a long narrow shadow on the ground which pointed to the entrance inside the canyon. At least ,that's what i remember.

If you aren't asking about how they are shown their path, you must be asking about their time within the canyon. Wikipedia has this to say:
