everyone you ask online says they have an IQ of 140. Why is that?

Well I don't mine was in the high 160-170, but don't ever tell anyone and I don't because it just makes me feel alienated when asked I say oh I don't know something average or lie and say I never took the test. IQ's don't matter to me. It is just something I wish that I was never told. Because I've always felt I didn't belong and that is just one more painful thing that makes me feel I'm not a part of everyone else, so if you ever ask me this is between us, my freak score, so I'm on-line and lets just say I'm 111 or never was tested okay thanks and IQ tests, scores and braggers mean nothing if they are all telling you there IQ they probably feel threatened that you think they are stupid and trying to make you feel inferior, who knows screw them and screw IQ's. Imagination and living your dreams is what is the genius in life not rattling off numbers about brains. So what? It's like Congratulations what do you want your new name to be Dogie Hauser, or rain man? Blahhhhh Bla Bla, those prove myself, brag a boron people I can't deal with. How boring. Next time tell them some lie like oh I just read the latest Sci American Mind Issue and they discovered IQ's under 200 are borderline retarded there's a new test didn't you know, oh of course not that's right didn't you say your IQ was only 140, sorry I didn't mean to offend you I forgot, or tell them great go tell your calculator, because your putting my monitor to sleep, or tell them I think your lying because there is no such score, and if you don't know that common knowledge you must be at least under 100. The point don't take it personal have fun with it, or just ignore it who gives a ****. Look I have a high three digit IQ mentioned above and I can't even spell, IQ tests don't mean ****. So don't worry about them, they're BS.

Some of them probably took an online IQ test, as those given an average of like 120, which is ridiculous considering that, by definition, the average should be 100 if their scoring is at all valid. And most of the rest are just insecure and want people to think they're smart, or are looking for attention or whatever.

I've also noticed how many people seem to claim to have genus level IQs online, so I don't think you're crazy :)

I guess it's something they wish was that way. Me? I would never claim to have an IQ of 140 though my son is very very smart and has an IQ that is well above average but not that high, he is gifted in the lower range (about 125/130 I think). I know a kid who has an IQ of over 150 which is almost unheard of. I don't know my IQ but I was told once it was above average but I have some learning problems also (dyslexia, maths disability etc etc) and I would NEVER claim to be smart. I envy smart people. But I don't envy people who claim they are smart when they aren't. I suppose it's easy to hide behind the cyber world and kid yourself into thinking you are something you just aren't. But that is pointless, might as well accept your IQ as it is as IQ is something you can't really change. Anyway high academic IQ is useless without a high social IQ...both are important.

I didn't realize that but coincidentally that was my IQ in high school . I hope they realize it's not just what your IQ is but what knowledge you are exposed to and what you do with that above average intelligence . Maybe the goal of most is to gain an above average level in school .

140 is the standard for genius.

For some, that qualification gives them authority.

In truth, those with high IQ's rarely announce it. It's not necessary.
