i recently got hired at my newest job, and a woman called me today and told me i have an orientation to go to on saturday morning and to wear a black or white collared (sp?) shirt, and black or khaki pants and NO tennis shoes.

would these be required as tennis shoes?
they look more dressy to me..

Those are absolutely tennis shoes. A tennis shoe is anything with a rubber sole and cloth on the upper with traction on the bottom. If she went out of her way to say "no tennis shoes", I would go out of my way to make sure I followed the rules. Wear a dressy flat that in no way resembles a sneaker.

P.S.
If a shoe is labeled as "unisex" it probably isn't work appropriate

Regardless of color, they look pretty close to sneekers/tennis shoes to me. Why don't you wear a nice pair shoes like you would wear on a date or going to a fancy party? Once you're working there, you can get a better idea of what's OK at your workplace by seeing what others are wearing.

They don't look dressy but they don't look like tennis shoes. The fun, busy pattern sort of "Dresses you down" instead of up. Very cute, though, but I wouldn't wear them to work. Maybe try some loafers, or high heels. :)

I wouldn't wear them, they look a little tennis shoey to me! Especially on your first day, it's better to be safe than sorry. I'd just go with a pair of black ballet pumps, easy, cheap and smart.
