as the patient you have the right to say no, this includes no to induction. why do they want to induce you? just because you are past they date they determined your child should be born?
if the baby wer having problems or you were they wouldn't "allow" you to wait. so odds are its more docs conviniance. there is no harm in going postdate.the placenta does not deteriorate, the calcification spots they use to say the placenta is aged happen early in pregnancy as well as late, they are not a true determination. yhou can always ask them to do a NST before deciding if YOU will allow them to induce you. induction leads to c section in about 90% of the cases, usually because the moms body nor baby were ready for labor and birth.

Do Not try castor oil... My doctor even said that it will get you dehydrated and it can harm the baby. Honestly nothing works. Some things can even lead to a harder labor and delivery so be very careful. Our doctor said sex nor walking helps. They will come when it is time. Just be sure to discuss your methods with your doctor before you try anything. You do not want to take your childs life into your hands like that. I admit it is a hard wait but it will feel so much better when you have a happy, healthy baby in your arms.

I have tried everything in the past week to induce my labour so I don't have to be medically induced next week and so far NOTHING has worked!
I have tried taking evening primrose oil as well as putting it inside near my cervix as it is supposed to help ripen your cervix. I have tried nipple stimulation that produced some VERY strong contractions which stopped as soon as I stopped doing it. Raspberry leaf tea is another thing I have been taking every day as well as bouncing on a large exercise ball and a trampoline! Plus my hubby is loving all the sex we have been having as semen contains prostigladins which can ripen your cervix. Oh and I have eaten curries galore, walked for miles and miles and had hot baths.... and..... NOTHING!!!!!
The only thing I will NEVER take is castor oil as my sister made me drink a whole heap mixed with orange and pineapple juice when I was a couple of days overdue with my first son. All it did was make me violently ill...vomiting AND diarrhea for almost 2 days. When I finally had my son naturally 8 days later....he had pooed inside me and the doctors said that the castor oil had put him inot distress and that is why he had done this. Apparently it can make them very ill if they swallow their poo so I was very lucky he hadn't!
Apparently it is supposed to work by making your bowel spasm...and boy does it spasm!...which is supposed to stimulate your uterus into contracting. I firmly believe that the only time it seems castor oil 'works' is if you are about to go into labour anyway. Then it is all a big coincidence! And who wants to deal with diarrhea and bowel spasms when your are in labour? Labour pains are bad enough and I never want to squirt my doctor or anyone else with diarrhea when I am giving birth!!!!!
But if you are almost ready to give birth...something might just work for you to help things along. I am still 2 weeks off my due date which could be the reason nothing has worked so far!
Best of luck anyway! It won't be long now.

i just had my baby 3 weeks ago and i was 10 days overdue (4th child) and i tried everything from eating loads of fresh pineapple, castor oil, spicy food, walking + walking up and down steps, very warm to hot baths and absolutely nothing worked. baby will come when its ready, mine did at a record 47 minutes, and i was just relaxing on the lounge for a change instead of trying anything radical to get labour started. the only thing i didnt try was having sex late in pregnancy, maybe that will work?! but only try if your waters are intact! otherwise you could get infection

Check out this website. It is supported by midwives that use these techniques with success. I understand your desire to go all natural and avoid induction. Remember...they CAN'T do anything to you unless you let them...Unless the baby is TRULY at risk. If they are saying that they need to make the baby come because this MIGHT happen or that MIGHT happen. Make a choice. If they say this IS a direct threat to your baby...do what has to be done. I studied Bradley Method and planned all natural. When push came to shove I had a breech baby whose head was stuck in my ribcage. You do what has to be done and scrap the game plan when things like that happen!!

I tried nearly everything (without going drastic and causing more problems) and nothing helped me I still had to be induced (my daughter arrived 11 days late). I know how you feel because you keep thinking is today the day. Good luck it will all be over soon enough and then the fun begins : - )

Any day two weeks before due date and two weeks after due date are considered due date.
You can't induce yourself safely.
But, you can do things that encourage labor. Take long walks.
Have sex. have sex and have sex . Eat spice food.
Getting the runs can just make for a messy labor.
remember have sex

Go to a vitamin or health food store and buy Blue Cohosh...midwives sometimes use this herb to get labor going.
