Yup, I had the flu so bad once that I had fluid in my lungs. I heard gurgling when I was breathing from the fluid. I was afraid BIG time then. The doctor said a person could drown from that type of infection and in fact, people do die from it. Took me a month to get well too.

By the way, blood transfusions are no longer a reason to be afraid and they have not been for some time now, at least in the US. I donate platelets (a part of my blood) every 2 weeks. They test my blood for 6 different types of serious diseases including HIV and AIDS plus other illnesses before releasing the blood into the general supply. They have not allowed anyone to get paid for donating blood either for a long time, which cut down on druggies selling their blood for money. Maybe close to 20 years since. I know, I have been donating blood since the mid 80's and have an 8 gallon pin from LifeSource, division of the American Red Cross.

Anyone who is currently afraid of a blood transfusion is listening to too many fables that are not true, or just afraid of needles.

Several times. My appendix was removed just as it was ready to burst. I've been hospitalized 3 times for CHF and a few times for asthma attacks.

2 years ago, I had some boils that were fibrous, so that lancing them proved useless. Doc gave me an antibiotic and told me to come back in a week. It turned out to be MRSA. By the time I came back, I was already in toxic shock. He took my BP and called the ambulance.

Only the asthma attacks and the 1st diagnosis of Heart failure were actually scary. All the others were just annoying.

I had pneumonia when I was 1 year old and spent a week in the hospital in an oxygen tent. I remember receiving oxygen treatments several times as a young child.

Not so much that my life was in danger, but sick enough for more than a year that I got to feel life wasn't worth living it any more......despite having two beautiful daughters....I guess we can die in more than one way, right? Fortunately, I am doing great and enjoy every minute...so, as long as we still breath there's hope that things will get better.

I had issues with tachycardia rhythms in my heart that has put me in the hospital a few times. It's been going on a year with no problems, but I had everyone pretty scared for awhile there.

No, but a few weeks ago I thought I was. It's an indescribable experience I hope I never have to repeat. At least not for a while.

that is so scary! when i was 3, i got a crazy intestinal virus that nearly killed me. i remember having tubes shoved up my nose in the hospital and my doctor and my dad looking at me. I still suffer from weird things with my intestines/stomach/auto immune shi.t, most likely because of that damn virus.
