Not if she's 6'6" or taller.... otherwise, she may want to loose a little weight.

Oh, man--you have to pry her out of benches at Taco Bell? Why are you even asking if it's a problem? It's always a problem when somebody has to be pried out of furniture, no matter what the reason. I am very sorry for her. Isn't she humiliated having this happen to her?

It depends on how tall she is. If she is over 6 foot 6, then her BMI is only about 23, which is normal. If she's 5 foot 5, then she's a butterball, and should probably step back from the snickers pie.

You ask why. Why is relative. Maybe there is no reason, and she can go ahead and weigh as much as she wants. In a perfect world, nobody would ever be rejected as a romantic partner for being huge. Nobody would be turned down for a job just because their elbows have dimples. Some people enjoy washing themselves with a rag tied to a long stick, and I say, power to the big people!.

There's nothing wrong with that weight from an aesthetic point of view; there are people who like that weight (and the figure that goes with it), and then there are those who don't.

From a health point of view, that depends on how tall she is, among other things. If she's 6'5, say, then 200lb is quite normal. If she's 5'5, then that would put some strain on her body, in the long term.

It depends on where the weight is coming from too. If it's to do with diet or exercise, then this may indicate high cholesterol and blood pressure, which are risk factors for heart disease. However, there are people who put on weight for other reasons (such as hormone imbalance), but are still healthy because they eat well and exercise well, and have healthy levels of cholesterol and blood pressure.

Written with advice from my spouse, who is in the latter situation.

If she is over 6 feet tall, than over 200 lbs isn't really all that bad.

Less than that height, then she needs to loose some poundage.

I am a male, 6 feet tall, weigh 185 lbs, in pretty good shape, but I still have a small roll of fat around my middle that adds 10 lbs to what I should be weighing.

Not necessarily bad. Weight is based not only on fat, but also on height, muscle tone, and bone structure. Some people simply are not supposed to be within the "healthy" BMI, because the BMI only factors in weight and height.

The best way for her to find out if there is a problem is for her to go to a dietician, NOT a general practitioner. GPs will go straight for the fat argument, while dieticians know what to look for.

It is bad. I have the same problem except my sister is 20 and my mom is 41 and both weigh in the 250 range and so did I until 9th grade. The reason to lose weight is so you don't get diabeties or hearts problems.

Being overweight is harmful no matter how old you are. She needs to lose weight because she is at risk for diabetes, heart disease, and a host of other deadly diseases. She should lose weight for life, not for what other people think. Maybe she should try a personal trainer. I've heard it's not that expensive. Try 24 hour fitness or some other gym or recreation center in your area. Also she should try walking, drinking more water, eating fruits and veges, and more baked foods, or change her diet all together. Maybe you should do it with her to stay healthy and encourage her.

If her medical doctor is telling her she needs to lose weight, she should.

She is putting extra strain on her hips and knees and ankles with a higher weight. She is also causing all of her body to work harder, such as her heart and lungs and circulatory system.

All of this type of strain ages you much more quickly, and will most likely contribute to her death at an earlier age that what she could attain if she was at a healthier weight.

I hope that your sister makes the correct choices for her health and well-being.

It is bad in health reasons............. extra weight makes it harder to breathe and not to worry you but she is in higher risk of heart attacks and strokes............they might say that because there shallow but some might say that for her health. Try motavating her go to a nutitionist or the gym together! If she is the stuuborn kind she might need a scare to show her what could happen if she doesn't at least try to get into shape...

While according scientifically and stuff she is overweight for her age (maybe not so much depending on her height) She can lose it only if she wants to and ignore all other ignorant people who say other wise. Im sure she looks just fine the way she is.

It depends on her height and build, although no matter how tall she is over 200lbs is a little on the heavy side. Type BMI calculator on google and work out what she's supposed to weigh...if she is overweight cutting back on junk and a little exercise will work wonders!
