im sorry i dont have a real answer to your question, but
lol at the answers above me, praising the us and how free it is compared to other countries, and then they compared it to countries like Iraq. Most other countries out there have freedoms too.
Biggest laugh I got was from the person that said that we get free healthcare.
Thanks for that one

Your Grandfather was wrong. (the poor are getting richer, by far than they were in Grandads day, they're just greedier)
YOU - simply have no perspective.
Go live in another country for a year, put up with their crap.
Then come back and badmouth the US.
Ever wonder why Americans kiss the ground after they have been abroad for some time?

read the BILL OF RIGHTS--the first ten ammendments to the US Constitution. Many countries DO NOT have these freedoms. Go to Iraq or Iran and see if you can get on line and criticise the government there without fear that they will come in the middle of the night and get you. Go live in one of these countries for a year, or even a month or a week and you may just appreciate what freedoms you have here that you take so much for granted.

America has by passed the middle income bracket. How? By out sourcing American Companies to China and India Malaysia Singapore Bankok. This was brought about by the greed of the Union workers. Now their job that used to pay them $40.00 plus per hour is being replaced by a laborer within a Foreign Countryfor $1.78 per hour. Americas greed caught the middle class off guard by their move into a Foreign Country.

none are truely free, we are all restrained in some way or another, but as a very poor person i would think i am more free than the rich, at least im not concerned about money or any other material things, just life, i dont think the rich get much time to think about real life.

Well what is your definition of free? Our poor have free medical care, housing, education you name it. We are able to decide what we want to be when we grow up. Not all people have that oppurtunity. We are able to Worship in the Church of our choosing. If someone's definition of freedom is being rich than that is sad. What is freedom to you? ( by the way my Dad always said the same thing as your Grandfather. He is a bitter man. Don't become bitter!)

From a legal standpoint, we are all free (as opposed to a caste system). From an economic standpoint, you're right.
There is nothing wrong with young children believing they live in a meritocracy. Like Santa Claus, it's a beautiful idea that inspires hope.
The problem is when foolish adults don't outgrow the idea...

Many believe the rich people own America. Many believe we are not totally free. The government keeps stripping away many of our rights each year, little by little without our knowledge. By the way, I'm poor!

Marketing, we are led to believe we live in a free country, when in fact nothing is free. We have to pay for everything and our earnings are taxed.
The best thing poor people are able to do is to quit making babies.
