I like pen the best. Pen on plain white paper. It gives the strongest and straighest lines. It also allows for more detail to show texture of materials. Finding a pen you like is important - go to a store that has samples and try until you find the one that feels best for you. Black is always the best ink. Good luck!

Designers use it all, depending on their preferences and style. Many use color markers because of the crisp lines and ease of use. Many use watercolors. I know some that use color pencil, pastels, oil pastels, and, one well known designer prefers crayons.

My favorites were (1) ink with watercolor and (2) watercolor with colored pencils or charcoal.
