I live in southern california, and though my home hasn't been evacuated, I see people all around me being so. It freaks me out that the place I'm living in is literally surrounded by fires. What starts these fires? Arsonists? Or is this simply accidents?

there are several things that can ignite these fires. it could be arsonists, a cigarette butt, the heat, the santa ana winds, low humidity etc. in the case of the witch creek fire it is believed that the santa ana winds caused two power lines to touch that ignited sparks which started the fire. news stations keep saying this is the perfect firestorm because there were three major factors that caused these fires to become "mega fires". high temperatures, low humidity and severe winds.

Some are started by accident and some are started by arsonists. From what I read they believe an arsonist was involved in some of these fires.
