I've often thought that Chicago sounds rather like this group, perhaps due to the use of brass, as well as the lead singer's rather growly voice.

Did you know that the lead vocalist for this group, Jim Peterik, later played keyboards for the 1980s group Survivor? The name of that group may not ring a bell but I'm sure their one big hit song will. It was "Eye Of The Tiger".
