I work for a dealer and yes, I do my own services on my vehicles. My own vehicles get the 30, 60, and 90k services done. It is recommended for a reason and not just profit. The fluids and filters need to be changed to extend the life of your engine and transmission, PERIOD! It does not need to be the dealer, but make sure they are giving you a full service with complete transmission fluid and filter change, fuel filter, transfer case, differential service etc. It really is good for your vehicle. Make sure you keep your receipt for any warranty issues if they should arise.

I do regular oil changes and small maintenance as the warranty requires. Be sure your tires and brakes are checked, and the cooling system is serviced if intend to keep the car a long time. If you plan to trade it in on a new one in under 5 years then only service what needs attention. The $1,000 that you would spend in a couple of those dealer "big services" could go toward the new car.

As long as the car is under warranty, I have the service done at the dealer. There is a record of the service on their files and there is no question if the service was done or not. After that I may tend to do my own service unless it involves transmission fluid changes. Then it easier to have it done at a place that can flush the fluid out of the torque converter.
good luck.

take the manual and look at the description of the services. alot of times the 30k isn't much more than oil and filter check tires/pressures and fluids. they may hook up the computer to it and run off a report too. some will actually check torque of components and sometimes heads and timing belts on the 60k's it's all up to you and what you warranty/service plan covers.

i do my own ,but in most cases its best to have a dealer do it then there's a clear record of it being done, then if there's any issues with it,about the warranty they wont give you a hard time about it,if you do it your self, they will question it,if a dealer does it,there never any questions asked about it,good luck with it.
