What are reasons people oppose gay marriage?

Question

I'm thinking for religious reasons... but I'm not religious...
I read a book stating that the real reasons people oppose gay marriage is because they "think it's repulsive" and so on...
My hypothesis is as good as yours, but I think people might even be intimidated by gay people. I'll give someone (who thinks gay people shouldn't be married) 5 bucks to live with a gay person for 1 day. :)

personally i agree with you its probly for religious reasons but older people (like really old 70+) were raised on the views that being gay is just wrong so i guess its wierd for them personally i'm all for gay marriage

There shouldn't be any reason to oppose gay marriage, but if I had to be flip and campy about it, I'd say: "well, straight people are doing a bang up job, what with more than 50% divorcing, and if that's an indication of how gay people will do..."
Of course we all know better. Our community has been so embattled that honoring our relationships are truly a testament to the dedication we all have towards our partners and loved ones. Cheers to us all!

People probably don't accept gay marriage for religious reasons, but also it may have to do with tradition. How people are brought up in the home perhaps has the strongest effect most often.

i did a research paper on gay marriages last year, i found out that one of the reasons people are against gay marriages was because they feel they are too promiscuous to hold a serious relationship, that if we allow gay marriages we would have a higher divorce rate.

i didnt find too many good reasons as to why we don't have gay marriages actually. i was kinda against it before i did the research paper, but afterwards i changed my mind.

edit: to answer lala's question, gay couples aren't able to receive the benefits a married couple receives.

i think it's because they are too narrow-minded to understand that not everyone is like them. They fear people who are different and try to suppress them. They often hide behind reasons like religion, but it's just fear of what they don't want to understand.
Those who use religion to condemn should read their teachings again and focus on the part that says you shouldn't judge or suppress.

people are so close minded...im not religious either and i think to many people are obsessed with the bible, that they forget (or refuse to see) that people are people, and if they love each other and want to start a family, then they should have the right to, no matter who they are...people are just so stupid sometimes

People are afraid of things that they don't understand. And they just need something to gripe about. If you love that person then I say go for it.
