According to Myrtle's account of her own death in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, she had hid in a stall in the first floor girls' bathroom because Olive Hornby was teasing her about her glasses. She then said that she heard a boy's voice, and that she opened the door to tell the person to go away, but that she saw the basilisk instead. I doubt she had heard Riddle, because he didn't need to always follow the basilisk around and because he wouldn't want someone to discover that it was him controlling it, but at the same time, I haven't found any references to her being a Parseltongue, on any fansites, the HP Wiki, nowhere. Any help?

No, I don't think Riddle was speaking the password to the faucet either, because that also would have been in Parseltongue. Anyway, I still think that would have been too risky for him to be in a relatively public place with the basilisk (he obviously didn't have the intention of going down into the chamber because the snake came out immediately.)

No, what she heard was Riddle speaking in parseltongue. The fact that it took a little bit of time for her to notice that it was a boy's voice, should be proof enough. Since, you can usually tell if a voice is male or female with just one word while, hissing and rasping sounds being made by a person would, make their voice much harder to identify. He was both speaking to the faucet to open the chamber and, calling the Basilisk to him, because he intended to kill Myrtle. He had several reasons for doing so. In "The Chamber of Secrets" the only student that was killed as a result of the chamber being open was said to be muggle-born so, we know for a fact what Myrtle's blood status was. Riddle was also in need of a victim to create his first Horcrux (the diary). Lastly Myrtle was the perfect "low risk" murder since she had, been brooding for hours in the bathroom where the opening to the chamber is located. After Olive Hornby had made fun of her glasses. She herself must have done a lot to keep people away from the bathroom, since they would have felt awkward doing their necessities while Myrtle was wailing, in the next door stall.

No, she's not a parseltongue. According to JK Rowling parseltongue was a rare trait passed down through the Slytherin family. I believe she heard him speaking to the faucet to open the chamber. When she opened the door the basilisk had been let out and the first thing she saw were its eyes which killed her instantly.

I think that she heard Tom getting the Basilisk out of the passage to the CoS. Remember, she never said that she heard any words--If she had, she'd have reported them (remember too, this is her big moment--people don't take that much interest in her). All she says is it is a boy's voice.

She's not parseltongue. Read the book. A boy was making strange noises. Who else could it be, but Riddle?
