I have an HP laptop that I want to rebuild. Its older, runs like crap, and I want to refurbish it so to speak to make it better. I am not sure what model it is, all I do know is its old enough to be running Windows 98. Anyways I was wondering if anyone could tell me what to look for when buying things for it. I dont need some fancy gaming machine, but something thats relatively fast that can handle a game if I choose to play one. So is this possible? I know some of you are going to say why dont you just buy a refurbished computer. Well I want to take pride in rebuilding one and also it will give me knowledge into something like that. So what kind of processor should I get and any other pieces and parts that would be helpful as I have never undertaken something like this before. Thanks for the help.

What you are proposing is pretty much impossible. Laptops are extremely compact, and not very upgradeable. A modern day processor is not going to fit, much less function in the motherboard of something that old. Just about every component on a laptop is part of the motherboard, so the only way to upgrade is to change out the motherboard. Since the manufactures radically change out their designs every few years, I don't think a modern day hp motherboard is going to fit in a ten year old laptop.

Hi. Congratulations on wanting to improve your laptop. The main problem is the limitations of the motherboard. The older ones cannot run fast enough to support much in the way of speed increases. I'm afraid that getting a newer one is your be$t bet.

its not really posible .. u would need an updated motherboard that fits ur shell and buy a discrete graphics card ... by the time u got it all together it would be more than buying a new one ... besides u wont find a board that matches ur shell thats much of an update ..
