Military parades in Britain are a very unusual event. The last military parade was held in the City of London following the victory in the Falklands War.
Although a quite large section of the UK pop may like there to be a parade for our returning troops from Iraq, such a parade cannot be classified as a victory parade.
The question the civil pop will ask is, "what victory"? This is not to say that the UK pop do not appreciate what our armed forces have achieved on their behalf. No. Most of us certaily do appreciate what our forces have done and are continuing to do.
We don't want a military parade. What we want is more money for our soldiers, sailors and airmen and women. We want proper and good compensation for those service personnel who are wounded in battle and full pensions for widows of armed forces personnel killed in battle.
We want proper military hospitals for wounded soldiers and not have them stay in an NHS hospital where they are often subject to abuse.

Because people look up to sports players more then a average soldier in Iraq fighting for not freedom, but for what the country Iraq has to offer us. Our precious oil.

I am English and have freedom. The soldiers in Iraq are fighting for the freedom of the Iraqis.
Perhaps this should be remembered by those who are trying to destroy freedom both in England and Iraq.

relax, your troops are still quite lucky. in my country, our soldiers are fighting and dying for our freedom, but they don't get any "welcome home" parade AND they are equipped with only the most antiquated military hardware. btw, im from the philippines, and we've been fighting communist and muslim rebels since the '60s.

Because our country has collectively gone stark raving mad.
We have no values, are self centred, self-absorbed, totally ignorant and there is always someone else to blame for our failings.
We put the likes of football above the things that are truly important.

Sadly sports people have a higher society ranking than soldiers.

Because they are not fighting in Iraq for our freedom.
They are fighting to enable the USA to get control of Iraq's oil.
Iraq has never been a threat to the UK or the USA and during the 1980s the Thatcher government was training Saddam's army officers and naval officers in the UK.

Mainly, I think, because we are not directly affected. And of course there are a lot of 'left wing' councils. I think it's a shame.

We should honour our soldiers more. My father was a soldier for 22 years & I'm proud of him.
