Most creatures make a variety of noises, depending on the situation. What you might do is think about how you (or maybe a dog) would react in the same situation as the dragon and amplify from there. If you would yell, the dragon would roar. If you would expect a dog to growl, the dragon would probably growl, only louder. Other descriptive words could be snarl or hiss, which would be stronger emotion than a growl, but still less than a roar. A moan would be appropriate if hurt or possibly confused. A rumble in it's throat could be for confusion or happiness. A purr would be a quieter rumble, and tends to be associated with happiness. Think what emotion you want the reader to feel and select the word that gives you that feeling.

Dragons, like most other animals, make a variety of noises depending on what they are feeling at the time. If they are infuriated, a roar or growl would be good, though a growl would be more threatening, whereas a roar would likely come before sudden-death-by-flameballing for whatever poor person incited it. Moans if in pain, hisses would also be threatening, but in a different way - more cold and calculating than flat out enraged. Purrs only if happy. I'd reccomend, if you have time, watching an animal - a dog or cat will do - and seeing how they react to different situations. Dragons, like all creatures, will act much differently to friends than to enemies.

depends on your story... if the dragon is just a little miffed, or anticipating the knight's entry, its a hiss or a growl... If it has just been rudely awoken from slumber, it's probably a deafening roar...
I cant imagine a dragon purring and moaning, but if your dragon is cute as a cat, go for it :)

Growl, roar, bellow, rumble, etc....they're all good noises for a dragon.

It's usually described as a roar. When they're angry, anyway. Of course they make other little noises at other times.
But it's your story; you're free to have your dragon make whatever sort of noise you want it to.

I think that would depend on it the dragon is a friendly dragon or a ferocious dragon...I would imagine that a friendly dragon will purr like a kitten and a ferocious dragon would roar like a lion!!! Good luck with the story...

I think they roar.
I'm sure they wouldn't purr or moan or hiss. If they did, they would be some crazy dragons on some sort of hallucinogenic substance. LOL
Namaste!

lets see it depends on the dragon
most likly your doing the six limbed classic dragon right?
I'd say roar or more of a louf HHHHHHHHHHHHHH sound depending on your destence.
but this also depends on the mood, type and what the dragon is doing.
if he/she is asleep it may just be the sound of air going in and out of a nose. sssssssssspppppppp?
but you get the point
