I get you your right but it's not so much what but how, its brash and larger than life, and like one idiot above me said its a bit of a racial bandwagon.
The problem with gangster rap is that people buy it. Like all music it began as an expression of the artists view of life, either first hand or from near their community, like all artist do. The problem was people went and bought it and still buy it. As long as that's happening record labels will promote it.
People always say rap does this and rap does that, like you say it's one section of rap it just happens to be the section that the mainstream want to spend most of their money on. I like all of the guys you mentioned, even the gangster rap, but I'm balanced, I like a gangster movie or a political one, it's the same thing it's entertainment.
And anyone who can dismiss a whole genre of music isn't a music fan, you like SOME music but you don't like MUSIC. Peace

There's good and bad in most musical genres. I don't like any music that has to use profanity to make a point. Rap in general gets a bad reputation for using the "n" word, the "f" word, glorifying drug use and cop killing, degrading women by calling them "h0's" and 'b1tches", etc. There are other forms of music where the artists do the same. Music is just the expression of the writers and singers of the music, no mater if you listen to rap, rock, country, gospel, oldies, easy listening, or any other genre.

it depends, rappers like 50 cent, the game, lil john among others descriminate woman, use cuss words almost all the time, and not only that..the music sucks.. also they promote violence.
however, there are good rappers like some fo you mentioned, mos def, the roots and common...jurassic 5 is also a favorite of mine, and I think as long as you make music as a art form of yourself, and not for someone elss, or record company, there is nothing wrong with it.
and rock bands do have drug refferences too.. so that is hypocritical on their part, and me being a huge beatles fans, you are right about that, I think it is a racial issue yet to be resolved, and I don't listen to any bands that promote violence or discrimination at all.

I know what you mean brother. This world is getting out of hand and out of place. People are losing their mentality and fueling themselves with these songs and not to mention gruesome video games, movies, and costumes then America is shocked at all the violence that we see happening around here. I mean, I haven't heard of any massive teen shootings anywere else than America. Violence has got to stop and the real humanity should come back and save us all.

That (and the fact that I don't speak multi-voice ebonics) is why I shy away from that type of music.

It's pathetic.
It's illiterate nonsense that reinforces the stereotype of blacks being unable to speak or understand the English language,as women hating abusers, and as violent anti-social thugs.
It has no redeeming value, artistically or socially.
