We have a traditional Christmas party about a week before Christmas.

We have married children and we have a total of 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Every one is assigned some food to bring to the party.

They bring the party to us because of our age. We are getting on in years and for the last 5 years they have taken charge.

My husband buys Christmas stockings, just the size that will hold dollar bills folded and stuffed inside.

We hang their stocking on the garland.

They love it when they get a little cash before Christmas.

When we were able to with stand the rigor of shopping we bought gifts.

Kids get to an age where we really can't pick out clothing that they want to wear so it becomes a waste of money.

We put names in a basket and call out a name. They pick their stocking and they call out the next name.

It's fun for all.

We leave Christmas Eve to each family so they can build their own Christmas Tradition.

We'll decorate a shoe box each for them. (2 grandsons aged 6 n 8yrs) and put in chocolate coins, bath sponge, bubble bath, colourful toothbrush n flavoured toothpaste, a pot of slime or something just as gooey, and various stocking filler type toys. Then we get them a toy depending on what is their favourite tv programme, PJ's, and a couple of books. We usually take them something in January too but we tell them that Santa left it at our house by mistake! It's worked out pretty well so far and the pair of them think we are on first name terms with Santa Claus as well as the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny lol! This won't last forever so we're making the most of it until all the disbelief kicks in!

My husband loves to shop for the perfect thing for each child. I think now that a third of them are teenagers gift cards for clothes, cd's, dvd's etc. We will say gift cards and then he still comes home with a special Christmas ornament tailored to each person. An educational toy for each younger child. He always over does it. Of course it is the first time in my life I have lived this way and I'm still not used to it.

I am going to give them their usual big box of sweets each and also give them money and then they can go into town after Christmas and buy what they like. Most of the adults in the family are doing this now and the kids get quite a haul, they love it.

I don't have grandchildren yet. My daughter Mia is only 22 and not ready to settle down yet. I have alto of Godchildren and nieces and nephews and then their kids. I just give them money in a nice card and let them get what they want. Some, which has surprised me have actually put it into their bank accounts.
Putting money in a card is so much easier and I don't have a tired back and feet.

No grand kids for me. This is what my parents do for me, my sister and my son... they set a price and ask what we would like to do with that amount. Usually we use it for something for our homes. One year I used the money for a new garage door and automatic opener, another year to have my kitchen cupboards redone. That makes it easy for them since they just make up a gift certificate and they don't need to worry about all the shopping. The youngest in my family is 25.

My youngest daughter is the shopping fool in this family. If you just ask her what her kids want for Christmas, she CAN tell you, but then she wants to make sure you get the right thing, so has to "supervise".

I learned a few years ago that it is just easier to cut out the middleman (I also hate to shop), and just leave it all up to my daughter. She goes out and buys the thing (whatever it may be), then comes home with it and tells me what it is, and how much that particular kid wants it, and then tells me how much I owe her...she gets the money back, I get the present to give, all is well !

Enjoy shopping during the week now that I have time to do it, so will find a small little something for everyone and furnish the Christmas feast.

I prefer to give something the parents can tolerate and need. I know they cant afford a ton of batteries and they dont need any more stuffed animals. I prefer to ask the parents and if it is money they need to buy important things that is what I give.
