WElcome to the good old days and the time of circling/down/lower and lower, waiting for a landing spot...we would circle at times for 1/2 hour. ! Can you imagine the waste of fuel then? Today, everything is computerized and you don't leave until you can land...straight in. In those days, planes usually left on time, but landed whenever. The worst trip I ever had...got on an Eastern Airlines plane from Miami to Washington National, waited 45 minutes before getting on the plane, then another 1 hour before taxing, then before the 1/2 apoint, had to turn around and go back to Miami (they needed the longest strip they had on the East Coast to land the plane..the hydrolics had gone out on the reverse thruster cowls! WE landed and the strip was lined with fire trucks, ambulances, etc...That was a trip. The plane kept moving down the run way, the brakes on the wheels were all they had to stop the plane...we stopped with about 5 feet of strip left! Needless to say, I was 8 hours late getting to Washington DC, had to go into Dulles instead of National, another hour back to National on a bus, then ... 4 hours waiting to get a rental car..the rental cars were all closed. The trip from HELL! I hate flying anyway, and this is just another reason why...cramped with knees in my chin, my rear sitting on a concrete block for a seat, offered a drink, no more edibles are offered except at a fee, well...I must admit, the prices are lower than they ever have been, but so is the comfort level. I think I would rather spend 5 days driving to the East Coast than fly for 4 1/2 Hours...I hate flying! Love and peace, Phil

It was Sandy Dennis. She passed away a few years ago. I enjoyed the movie. The worst beginning to a trip for me was in 1981. A friend and I were going to Hawaii and the airplane was grounded for 4 hours before we could leave. They could not get the fuel cover closed! What a nightmare, but Hawaii is beautiful.

Yes, that was Sandy Dennis alright. I wonder what's become
of her? I didn't like her performance because I thought she
gave a whiney interpretation of her role. I think because of
that I liked the remake better. But then, I love Goldie! LOL.Tho
not a particular fan of Steve Martin.

Yes a funny movie. They did a remake a few years ago. It was not nearly as good. I don't even remember who was in it, but I think Goldie Hawn might have been. Maybe Steve Martin? To bad a movie to care.

That was great. I was stuck on the ground in Johannesburg, during a hug storm We were ready to take of for London. I was amazed how the wind actually "tossed" and lifted the plane off the ground! Obviously not high off the ground, but you sure could feel it.

l loved that movie: "oh george". i have been on a plane with a small engine problem and we could not land because air control said all planes had to wait for the pope's plane to finish it's landing procedure and make sure he was safe. i'm still mad about that!

Yes, I do remember it, but it's been a loooong time.
Planes circling waiting to land started before I was born. (I don't feel like saying when that was)
