ok here it goes. i built my computer over a year ago and just recently it crashed. it had been just suddenly dying but would reboot. then about 2 weeks ago it crashed and i saw the blue screen as windows was trying to reboot, now my computer is in a cycle. so i bought a new power supply. and it still happens. any other ideas? think my ram died or mother board? is it even possible that its a virus? i had determined that it had been my power supply was faulty because sometimes it would shut off if the TV that is on the same power strip was turned on then the computer would shut off.

Hi,
Well, it sounds like you have too many things pluged into that power strip, try using separate outlets with separate power strips. As for the BSOD (blue screen of death) seems like you might want to look for your OS CD (Windows CD) and reinstall it. Not the best of news. But it happened to me about a year ago.

Good Day ; )

Sounds like the power to your house is a very low amperage or your power strip breaker has a low amperage breaker reset Move your computer to an out let on a different circuit that has no other devices attatched. (especially not in a kitchen) Then format and reinstall windows/video drivers/ audio drivers/ mother board drivers/ application software / av and as/ then system restore point/ and finally your ASR back up program The blue screen is coming up because of registry and file corruption When installing if asked to run automatic up dates deny and run them manually. When asked if you want to load at start up deny, Icons -deny Your av programs ,run manually All of your programs can still be accessed through your program start menu By doing it this way your boot time will be greatly decreased as well as your shut down time. All your other programs will run smoother and faster because nothing is running in the back ground

Maybe it was too soon for you to try to build a computer. They are so cheap now you could have saved yourself a lot of aggravation.

I would suggest you first try to get past the "Blue Screen of Death."

The Blue Screen of Death (sometimes called "bluescreen", "stop error" or just abbreviated as "BSOD") is the popular name for the screen displayed by Microsoft's Windows operating system when it cannot recover from, or is in danger of being unable to recover from, a system error (the Microsoft term is Stop error). There are two Windows error screens that are both referred to as the blue screen of death, with one (Windows NT 4/2000/XP/Vista) being significantly more serious than the other (Windows 9x). There are several causes of the blue screen popping up. It can be a poorly-written device driver, bad memory, damaged registry or usage of incompatible versions of DLLs (see more on the "Types of blue screens" section).

The blue screen of death in one form or another has been present in all Windows operating systems since Windows version 3.1. It is the successor of the less well-known black screen of death that occurs in OS/2 as well as MS-DOS[1]. In early builds of Windows Vista it was complemented with a red screen of death, used for boot loader errors.

Blue Screen of Death
Source: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/b/blue_screen_of_death.html
Abbreviated BSOD, an error that can appear on computers running in a Windows environment. This includes even the earliest versions of Windows, such as Windows 3.0 and 3.1, and still occurs in later versions such as Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows 2000. Jokingly called the blue screen of death because when the error occurs, the screen turns blue, and the computer almost always freezes and requires rebooting.

Your computer and TV should not be on the same power supply. A dedicated line is best.

If you can get Windows loaded at all, try to get into Safe Mode to check for a virus.

If it turns out there is no virus, see if a Windows Repair will help:
