I have a uni assignement on the topic ofsuccesses and failures : computing before 1980 . However when I do a google search 99% of material is 1980 and beyond . Anyone got any useful tis o infoto help me out , much appreciated :)

I believe personal computers became available about 1980 or 81. I was working at a university at the time and we got our first PC in 1983. No hard drive. Two 8" drives which used 8" floppies. The program floppy was inserted in one drive and a work floppy in the other. What excitement overcame the office when we got our first hard drive - 10mb!

You really need to get a copy of "The Mythical Man-Month" and read it three times. It's about the development of the third-generation IBM mainframes.

When you search, do your searches on "History of Computing"
