Like some Americans, who think capitalism is a good system. Capitalism does NOT value equality. Everyone should be treated equally, regardless of race, sex, education, etc. Also people should paid exactly the same and given the same benifits. Alot of people think they are superior than others. Guess what? They are all wrong! There would be no competition, either, which is good, since competion is evil. I don't understand what is wrong with these ideals. They are very good and benifit everyone.

And why am i dumb? LOL, it's a whole lot better than capitalism, that's for sure!

Not everyone is driven by money. The benifit in continuing your education is knowledge.

That's a lot of reading. It's probably some rich capitalist's biased opinion on equality.

So, you think because you were born with a high IQ that you should be given special privlidges? And you think I'm dumb? Not everyone has the oppertunity to succeed. The poverty cycle continues for many.

So, people become doctors because they want to be rich rather than because they are passionate to what they believe in?

2007-10-24 17:37:20 · update #5

I am not poor. I am middle-class. Obviously we can't change the animal kingdom, but we can change it for humans because the amount of money you make is not always dependant on how much you tried. Some people are rich but didn't work hard, others are poor because of unfortunate cirumstances.

2007-10-24 17:49:28 · update #6

Why should a doctor get paid more than someone working at McDonald's? Not everyone can be a doctor. Not everyone has the intellegence or patience to become a doctor. But some people do. They don't need a reward for it. Quite frankly, my future job is not by any means dependant upon money. Giving doctors more money that someone who works at McDonald's is saying they are better. That is not true!

2007-10-24 17:52:50 · update #7

Well, ideally, someone who doesn't work will face unappealing consequences. We can't allow people to not work otherwise nothing gets produced. Thus, we eliminate slackers. Everyone works for the benifit of each other.

2007-10-24 17:54:32 · update #8

Do all of you guys think poverty is caused by bad choices? Not all the time. Why be rewarded for doing a harder job as opposed to doing an easy job? The reward is itself. People become doctors to HELP people. That is their reward. I just don't understand what is wrong with society if we are obsessed with money and that is our only incentive for working.

2007-10-24 19:04:57 · update #9

By unappealing consequences, I meant being deported out of the country. It is for not working, rather than not being "worse" than someone else. I view people not to "better" or "worse" standards like you capitalists do.

2007-10-24 19:07:11 · update #10

Intellegence is not defined by discipline. Genes play a huge factor in your IQ. Is it my fault that I have a difficult time in school because I was born with a below-average IQ? It is not my fault. So, why should I have to suffer the consequences?

2007-10-24 19:09:12 · update #11

I don't believe that people do thinks for the sake of salary increases. Is it true that this is how society has come to be? Money does not mean much to me. I would rather everyone live in collective happiness, rather than an elite few living in happiness, while the poor continue to struggle with everyday living. I think that people are not all bad. Perhaps some people will change the world we live in with their innovative ideas, not for purpose, but for the sake of accomplishment and the ability to provide a better quality of life for people.

2007-10-24 19:13:53 · update #12

I don't think money has anything to do with happiness, but apperently you do, otherwise you would embrace this system.

That would be national suicide!! You think a person with an IQ of 150 that went to college for 12 years and works in a high stress environment, making life saving decisions shuold be paid the same as someone that drops out of school, has an IQ of 80 and works at Burger King???? Are you nuts??!!!!!

Competition is why we have great medical technology that allows people to have life expectancies of 76, instead of what it was in the 1800's of maybe 50. Competition is why you are using a computer, and talk on a cell phone! Competition creates better technology and a more prosperous nation. Just because a few retards can't compete, doesn't mean it's evil! What about the animal kingdom, where only the strong survive? Are animals all evil?? Listen to yourself!!

Equality is only good in the eyes of justice and the ability to attempt to reach ones goals (no guarantees), otherwise equality is a joke. I'll take liberty over equality anyday! NOBODY is created equal. That's why we have super geniuses and dope heads, supreme athletes and uncoordinated doofuses.

You get a star for the dumbest question I've read so far on Y/A!!

EDIT: Nobody deserves special privileges, but nobody should be robbed of success if they can achieve it! And unfortunately, the smarter or more athletic you are, the better your chances at achieving the success you go after! "The poverty cycle continues for many" well that's just reality. That is life, but don't punish success because a few can't survive on their own. As I said before, just look at the animal kingdom, only the strong survive there. Should we regulate the animal kingdom so all animals have an equal chance at survival and a good life.....? I'm guessing you fall into this unfortunate group of poverty, and that's why you expect to be given what others work hard for.

EDIT2: Of course some people never earned their money. Like Sen. Ted Kennedy, he is a trust fund baby, born into a rich family. BUT, Who are you to say a man that has educated himself and worked tirelessly for 40 years to make HIS, HIS fortune, that he cannot give it to his family??? The money you MAKE is usually always dependant on how hard you worked, the money you HAVE RECEIVED is not always a result of your own hard work and determination. Those poor can complete High School, apply for a government student loan and attend college for a good paying job, which they pay nothing on the loan until 6 months after they graduate. There is no excuse not to better oneself. If they have a child or are addicted to drugs, that is NOBODY's fault but their own, and they need to take responsibility for their own actions, not expect strangers to pay for their mistakes! Socialism and communism are extremely flawed systems. Capitalism has it's flaws, but allows it's people to live to their fullest potential, reap the rewards of their hard work yet not be equally miserable like under socialism and communism.

Doctors are in higher demand yet in shorter supply than a dishwasher at McDonald's. The doctor also contributes more to society and has a more specialized and harder job, so yes, a doctor is better than a dishwasher. Without the reward, where is the incentive, not to many people do it just because it's for humanities sake. No incentive, no doctors. Socialism and communism do not address human nature. The desire to get what one deserves for their labor, and to aquire better material possessions to live as comfortable as possible..

Equality is a nice word. No one wants to tip their hats to someone else.

But to have full societal equality regardless of merit or individual accomplishment is a great way to send your country to hell in a handbasket. It monopolizes the market and totally wipes out opportunity and individualism.

How can you suggest a system that doesn't benefit on the basis of education? That would simply create a country full of unproductive dolts because nobody would bother going to school.

How can you oppose market competition? It is competition that makes companies compete for customers. It is competition and incentive that spurred the development of cars, passenger airplanes, and it is competition that forces companies to develop better and cheaper goods to get more customers. With competition, everything gets better. Would you like a government monopoly to make your car?

Equality is nice. But the only real equality that matters is equal rights- not equal income or equal status.

QUOTE:"Not everyone is driven by money. The benifit in continuing your education is knowledge."

-This is a bad argument. You won't find too many parents out there who want their kids to go to college just to know more things. Rather, you send your kids to college to increase their earning potential.

QUOTE: "So, you think because you were born with a high IQ that you should be given special privlidges? And you think I'm dumb? Not everyone has the oppertunity to succeed. The poverty cycle continues for many."

-So are you saying that intelligent people should be limited as if they were average? You may talk about the "poverty cycle" but alot more people would be in poverty if we had geniuses not realizing their natural "special privileges" as you suggest.

QUOTE: "So, people become doctors because they want to be rich rather than because they are passionate to what they believe in?"

-Yes, desire for wealth is a major factor when aiming for a job. You must not have entered the work world if you think otherwise.

I think you have some paranoia about greed. It is the pursuit of wealth that delivers new products and it is that same desire which focuses people. A rich CEO or founder does not really get rich by stealing other people's wealth. He creates new wealth and new jobs and makes life better for everyone. What would we have now if it weren't for rich capitalists like Henry Ford and Bill Gates?

QUOTE: "Well, ideally, someone who doesn't work will face unappealing consequences. We can't allow people to not work otherwise nothing gets produced. Thus, we eliminate slackers. Everyone works for the benifit of each other."

-Yes, you'll just have an entire populace of workers who only want to work at Wal-Mart because such an employee would get the same benefits as a doctor. That's not too great for a society.

QUOTE: "Why should a doctor get paid more than someone working at McDonald's? Not everyone can be a doctor. Not everyone has the intellegence or patience to become a doctor. But some people do. They don't need a reward for it. Quite frankly, my future job is not by any means dependant upon money. Giving doctors more money that someone who works at McDonald's is saying they are better. That is not true!"

-Because no one would pursue fields such as medicine if they could work at McDonald's for the same pay. Giving doctors more money than a McDonald's employee is absolutely fair because they ARE BETTER than McDonald's employees, even if you don't like to think so. They provide a far more difficult and needed service that benefits the entire community. Why shouldn't they be rewarded for doing more?

FACE IT: you can't control human nature and human nature is motivated by the pursuit of happiness. If you take that incentive away, you are left with nothing. A society that rewards no one is a society that punishes everyone. Oh you shall have equality, everyone would just be alot poorer.

People should be treated fairly, not equally. We are guaranteed equal opportunity, not equality. You are entitled to what you earn and nothing more.

There are already laws in the United States to protect people from discrimination based on race and sex so I don't know why you bring that up. Discrimination should be encouraged when it comes to education. A doctor that took 8 years of higher educational classes should be paid more than someone that dropped out of high school and works 10 hours a week babysitting his parent's dog.

If there was no competition, there would be no America.

"So, people become doctors because they want to be rich rather than because they are passionate to what they believe in?"

That's not what I said, nor is it relevant. The reason someone becomes a doctor doesn't change the fact that a doctor should get paid a lot more than someone who works at McDonald's.

Nobody disagrees with the concept of equality. Capitalism does value equality, in fact it requires it. You've mischaracterized what people think. I don't know if it was intentional or not so I'll assume it wasn't.

You define equality as everyone being treated the same regardless of race, sex, education, etc. On that most people would agree. People are equal. People. But jobs are not. A janitorial position is not equal to a chairman of the board position. The chairman of the board position requires much more experience, a higher education, and comes with far greater responsibilities. Why should they both pay the same? They shouldn't. If they did, nobody would want to be the chairman of the board. Why the hell would I sacrifice time and energy to do a far more difficult job when I can make the exact same amount of money working part time as a janitor? Screw that.

Whether you know it or not, you or a socialist. "Competition is evil" sealed it. And socialism has failed EVERYWHERE it has been tried. Why? It fights against human nature. Human nature is to compete.

Capitalism does value equality, has I state. But not your equality. In order for Capitalism to succeed, everyone must have an equal opportunity to achieve.

Bah...screw this. I'm tired of trying to explain the real world to you socialist. Not wasting my time tonight. Here's the abbreviated version: Socialism has failed. Deal with it. You want to be a good little socialist? Go for it. I'm not going to do it. I'm going to bust my ***. And when I'm done I'm going to be sitting in my front yard overlooking an ocean somewhere with a beer in one hand and a fruity alcoholic beverage (something local) in the other hand. And when I'm bored I'm going to jump into my decked out SUV, goto my boat/office and finish up all 10 minutes of the paperwork I have left. Gotta keep the paperwork for my dive tour company up to date. And while you are stuck in stagnation, whining and moaning, begging for people to treat you fairly I'm going to achieve and enjoy my dreams. And I'll be there laughing at you, then that laughter will turn to pity. Not because I'm mean. But becuase you squandered your life waiting for someone else to give you meaning and purpose while I made my own meaning and purpose. Thank you Capitalism, thank you Founding Fathers, thank you me. Deal with that.

Ideally, Capitlism says everyones equal and should only be paid on how valuable their contribution to society is

I've worked my butt off to go from trailer park trash to living a decent life, are you saying I should get payed the same as some looser who just slacks off and doesn't care?

I have a friend who studied on all his tests, worked his way through college, became a stock broker, he earned his fate

I have another friend, got straight D's throughout high-school, never tried to move beyond what he was, now works as a cashier at Blockbuster. He earned his fate as well

EDIT: "ideally, someone who doesn't work will face unappealing consequences"

Right, such as not getting as much money as other people would be one of those consequences, and someone who works hard would have the consequence of more money.

"Why should a doctor get paid more than someone working at McDonald's? Not everyone can be a doctor"

No, Everyone can be a doctor, that's the concept of equality. If someone is lacking intelligence, it's the fault of their parents lack of discipline as a child and the inidividuals lack of discipline as an adult. Additionally, a doctors contribution to society is much more important than a McDonalds employee, I used to work at McDonalds and I never ever had someone rush in and yell "this man needs a liter of cola or he's going to die."
Also, I didn't have to study for years to becom McDonalds employee or take an oath or have someone elses life in my hands.

EDIT #2: If you are poor in the US chances are, you actively chose that.

And we are on the same page on the fact that if you don't work you should be deported, my personal idea is to have a one for one swap, take a lazy bum and switch him out with a hard-working Mexican who will gladly take his place. Illegal immigration, the economy, welfare leaches all solved.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but your theory has been put to the test, and it has failed.....badly. Everyone has a gift, something or things that they can do better than most. To put a value on what that thing is that they do is important. Would you pay a person the same that is super good at digging a hole in the ground, but can't negotiate a peace treaty, or a person who can negotiate a peace treaty that is not so good a digging holes?

Keep thinking though. It is up to us to make this world a better place.
The point is not everyone is equally needed for what they do. Supply and demand. In this country a great digger can own and operate a digging company, and possibly make as much money as he or she could ever want. The type of world you would want us to live in would never allow that to happen.

EDIT: Happiness has nothing at all to do with money. It seems to me that you, and you alone are the one making that connection. I personally know some people who are filthy rich, that are both happy and unhappy. Its all relative. Happiness is a state of mind, not a feeling.

If you feel so strongly about the subject, perhaps you should really consider moving to Cuba, North Korea or Vietnam. Those are all communist countries, something you would probably like. China is moving away from communism and embracing capitalism, so you probably wouldn't like it there.

Those places to extreme for you? Then I suggest Western Europe or Canada. They are socialist countries with some capitalism thrown into the mix. Don't forget to write.
