anyway.. can you help me out with explaining this? it's not too serious is it? I mean, they prescribed me some beta blockers, if I need them.

Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), also known as "extrasystoles" are "extra" heartbeats. They arise from an irritable area in the heart's lower pumping chambers (the ventricles). PVCs interrupt the normal heart rhythm and cause an irregular beat. This is often felt as a "missed beat" or a "flip-flop" in the chest. PVCs are often harmless, but when they occur very often or repetitively, they can lead to more serious rhythm disturbances

Another simplified exlanation: If the rthymn of your heartbeat marches along and suddenly, there's a pause or dropped or skipped beats; or missed beats. That's what they call a PVC or extrasystole or irregular heartbeat. . . Normally, one's heart beat emanates from the right atrium where the S-A node is located. That's the natural pacemaker of one's heart. PVC's or premature ventricular symptoms come from another foci in the ventricles and not from this pacemaker.in the right atrium.

Ventricular bigeminy is one example of a PVC. In it, a regular heartbeat is coupled with an irregular beat. Ventricular bigeminy is also called pairing of beats; every other beat is a PVC.

A person is considered to be have First Degree A-V Block when he exhibits these PVC's. Normally First Degree Heart Block and second degree.are not considered serious. All that is needed is obsevation.

When you go into Third Degree; and esp if symptomatic such as chestpains, low blood pressure; loss of consciousness;etc. , then it becomes more serious. In this instance, the medical intervention needed is insertion of a pacemaker to do the job of the failing heart.

These are the underlying causes of PVC's:

rnyocardial ischemia; hypoxemia or low blood oxygen; digitalis toxicity;or drug digoxin toxicity; epinehrine; aminophylline( drips used in Asthma or other rep conditions such as COPD; hypokalemia or low potassium; ; anemia; CHF; fever;acidosis; bradycardia or slow heart rate below 60; anxiety and caffeine.

Lol why didnt you ask your doctor when you were diagnosed. All I know is that it is a heart condition (minor if I am not mistaken) that affects your ventricles (the lower two chambers of your heart). The ventricles are responsible for your blood pressure (your left to be specific), but I'm guessing your condition is just a fancy word for heart murmur. Probably not a big deal, ask your doctor anyway.

you need to go to the doctor, get an ECG done and may be one longer recording of ECG to see is there actually some rhythm problem. Treatment comes after proper diagnosis.
