Each individual colony was just titled by it's name. New York was simply "New York", Georgia was simply "Georgia", Pennsylvania was simply "Pennsylvania", and etc.

There was no notion or concept of a unified country. Each individual colony was simply that; a colony of the British Crown and Empire.

Peace.

They considered themselves to be English men and women, but they probably called themselves by the name of their particular colony, as in Virginians, New Yorkers, etc. This sense of belonging to a nation, rather than a state was still pretty prevalent until after the Civil War.
