Well, basically...if you become dependant, or already are then you're in trouble. It's like a drug, and if you NEED it to sleep, then yeah...it's bad. And if/when you get off it, you'll probably have withdrawal-like symptoms...

Yes, taking NyQuil every night is not a good thing.
What it is in the NyQuil that makes you sleep is an antihistamine - doxylamine succinate. You can get just that medicine in Unisom (the original ones, not the gel caps).
You will also get similar sleep-aid effects from taking another common antihistamine that is also used as a sleep aid - diphenhydramine hydrochloride (aka Benadryl). You can just take pure Benadryl or, if you also need a pain reliever, try something like Tylenol PM (which is just one Tylenol and one Benadryl mixed into one pill).

NyQuil contains alcohol which makes it a possible candidate for addiction. There are also other chemicals (i.e. decongestants) in NyQuil that will induce drowsiness as well. As with any sleep aid, there is a psychological addiction that is associated with one’s ability to fall asleep. It is a possibility that you may be either psychologically or physically addicted to the NyQuil in helping you fall to sleep.

so so, Nyquil doesn't allow you to enter the deepest part of sleep that you need for full rest. Plus you will develop a dependency over time.

If you have trouble falling asleep you should try something like "nytol" possibly, or a generic store brand sleep aid, if that becomes habit-forming, or isn't working, you definitely need to see your doctor so he/she can prescribe something. Sounds like the latter may be best, since you asked the nyquil, question.
good luck
