From what I've seen, they vote based on what they're promised or what they think they've been promised.
I have yet to see a politician keep a promise. Politicians are elected based on emotions - not facts.

Presidential campaign after presidential campaign I have seen the people buy the lies hook, line and sinker yet once in office they do as they please instead of what they said they would do.
Americans vote on the premise of what is promised and who is most popular. The looks, the power, the most well known are most likely to be the president of choice.

Very good question. I've been trying to find out what Hillary has done for New York and all her avid supporters can't tell me a thing. They must be hyped on "promises". I remember her promising health care last time around, promise not kept.

In a perfect world it would be the ones that are kept. But in a lot of instances how do you know ahead of time if the promises will be kept.

For one that should elect between candidates he should see what this candidate did in the past and kept what they promise since politicians often lie to get elected.
For US this is not the reality since many people more interested to know what is happening in Britney’s life than who is the best candidate for the job.

All too often we vote for whoever we consider the lesser evil offered by our parties. Or we vote for what our parties offer regardless of who it is. Those of us who manage to take note of the promises after the character assassinations, dire predictions, and insults are fewer then we like to admit.

For some it matters but many do not want promises but ideas and solutions. Peace

I know I don't. They'll pretty much say anything to get into office. I try to look at their track record. Except for Romney. I'm from Massachuetts and I can't handle any more of him.

That'd be nice if they did. But people have short memories. Remember Bush saying he's not a nation builder?
