Two year old mobile home; friend wants to paint, but walls seem very thin, and might not absorb paint well. Any other ideas for the walls would be helpful. Thanks!!

We just painted our house(the inside) and its a ten year old Palm Harbor and what we did was first put Primer on first. We used a primer called "Kilz". You can find it at Lowes,wal-mart and home depot. You dont really have to put it on thick. Let it dry and then paint with whatever paint you like. It works real good.

If the walls has the vinyl cover on it paint will not stick. You must prime first. You can do a test spot First if you wont to confirm this. Put paint on let dry and take finger nail and the paint will come off.Prime first and your friend can paint. The wall wont absorb but will dry from the outside, and will be fine.Lived in a mobile home 20 years and been a painter 28

At two years I'd be surprised if mfgs. were still using 1/4 drywall; as in mine which is from 1984.

In any case the walls may also have some kind of paper/ vinyl/ faux paneling laminated on.

I've pained my walls in a total remodel using SATIN latex, and they came out fine. First of all without knowing at all what TYPE of paint; I want deperately to assume you'd use latex; and with all due respect walls don't strictly "ABSORB" the paint; no matter how thick.

I used Beadboard in my living room; added chair rail through much of the home; stucco and paint in my bedroom; and two colors hre in the comp/2nd bedroom.

I hate to say primer; which is a suggestion I'm sure you'll get; but often an unneccesary step.

Prime and paint or prime and wallpaper.
