First - I wouldn't say "most" - but probably 25% - I see the kids at my daughters school and it's definetly 25%. My daughter doesn't have that problem but I do know that it has gotten so bad the schools have changed menus, snack bars and snack machines drastically since I was in school. It's not even allowed to bring cupcakes or cookies to Christmas parties at school, vegetable and fruit trays or party sandwiches only. And, P.E. like we use to know is WAY advanced. So... now that we've ruled out the schools being at fault - I have to ask....how do the fat kids get to McDonalds? I'm sure it could never happen again, but I do remember about 5-7 years ago a case of a girl whose parents sued McDonalds and actually won millions - it was also done to other places for a short while and many people probably got away with some dough back then. That is sooo weak! That's when everything changed and people started pointing fingers at parents. Fast Food chains started offering "healthier" ideas. So... lets point the finger - I think you know which direction!!

I blame parents for childhood obesity, not the fast food restaurants. Yes, their food is unhealthy and should be eaten very very rarely by a growing child, but they didn't shove the Happy Meal and PlayStation controller into the kid's chubby little fingers. People need to start accepting responsibility for obesity, cancer due to cigarette smoking, and any other vice they can't shake themselves of. When I was young, I never got fast food, only as an occasional treat, and was involved in many physical activities. I think today a lot of parents are working full time and are too tired to cook, but instead of trying to take 5 minutes to heat up some Campbell's Soup and fix some sandwiches and a quick salad, it's easier to drive thru and get whoppers or big macs for the whole family! Sheesh....I could go on and on but you see my point.

I would say the parents. Fast food are the easiest way to prepare foods (you just buy them and eat it). Dont blame Mc Donald's or any other restaurant for that. The y are there to earn big bucks so they have to make their food pleasing to the eye, nose, ears and taste! How do they do that? Put in a lot of those seasonings like salt, sugar, msg(?), ketchup, mayonaise and some other stuff to make them tastier. The draw back is you get lots and lots of calories! Best way is for mom and dad to cook real and healthy foods for the kids. They can regulate the amount of seasonings put in a certain food. If their children see them cook their own food at home and enjoy what they're seeing as they grow up, they will learn the ins and outs of cooking and will also do the same when they grow up and have a family of their own.

I don't think most American kids are fat, but I would blame the parents. McDonald's does not force you to come in and eat their food.

Parents. Because kids will eat what tey are customed to, and if you start feeding your 1 year old french fries and junk food, that's what s/he will be eating in the future too. Whereas if you teach your child healthy eating habits from early on, they will actually like the healthy food and not cry for french fries. McDonald's does not shove their fatty foods down anybody's throat by force, people who are fat only have themselves to blame. If no-one would eat junk food there would be no McDonalds.

Parents. It's not the fault of McDonald's or any other fast food restaurant, as they generally offer healthful or low-fat alternatives to their regular menus. Parents should be the ones responsible for proper diets for their kids. To paraphrase an old saying: You can lead a kid to McDonald's, but you can't make the restaurant responsible for the kid pigging out.

I dont buy the theory that most American kids are fat. BUT that being said, I put the blame solely on parents. I have seen parents absolutely STUFF little kids full of food. Children do not need a huge amt of food in one sitting. it is better to have small amts throughout the day.

PARENTS! It's not fast food restaurants faults if parents allow their children to eat there everyday. I've seen parents give their one year olds fries and let them drink pop! Restaurants are in business to serve good tasting food and make a profit. Parents should monitor what their kids eat and only let them eat at fast food restaurants like once a week.

Parents are to blame. They don't teach their kids about healthy eaying. Most mother's are too lazy or tired from working to cook family meals. Divoces is ramamnt and the last thing a single parent wants to do is feed their kids good meals -- good eating habits start at home.
The schools need to serve better food as well
