Yes, you can cash a UK cheque in the US, but most likely you will have to pay a fee for the currency conversion. They can also take a long time to clear, as long as 6 weeks. Stupidly, in this day and age the cheque is sent to the issuing bank to clear by post, so it takes a while. Some banks will put the funds in your account after a week, so you can withdraw the money, however if the cheque bounces the money will be taken back.

The exchange rate from dollars to pounds at the moment is approximately £1 = $2

Not sure about your figure of $3000 dollars as if its coming from the UK, the check would be in pounds, so i`ll give you both:

£3000 = $6000
$3000 = £1500

Well I think we need to clarify, is it a UK Cheque or a Foreign Draft ("cheque" issued in UK but currency could be USD).

If it is indeed a UK Cheque, good luck luck with clearing cycle as it will take forever and a day!! So very unlikely that a bank will let you cash it.

If it is a Foreign Draft then yes you can cash it.

Sure, you can cash it in the US - you'd probably have to have a bank account and deposit it into the account. It will take awhile to clear though before the funds are available to you.

Be very careful here though. If they are going to send you money orders and have you send them back some of the money from your account, or even worse wire it to them by Western Union, it's not a job, it's a scam - the money orders will be fake and you'll be out whatever money you sent them.
