The tropical rainforests are oxygen-neutral. 45% of the free oxygen comes from the oceans; some say the percentage is higher. No one is suggesting that we do away with all the forests. Human population would need to increase at least 10x before we would need to make a major dent in the world's forests. If we ever reached that point, we would certainly implement iron and phosphorous fertilization of the oceans to make up for it, as well as to increase the foundation of the entire oceanic food chain.

I believe in reasonable forest conservation. But you need an argument much more pressing than oxygen balance.

The woods/forests take some carbon dioxide out of the air, but it's mostly the oceans. The plankton that float near the surface of the water are the real carbon dioxide users, and global warming is partially so threatening because changing weather/temperatures/salinity/etc. may affect the plankton.

Who said anything about the oceans? Trees release oxygen into the air. Without trees, the buildup of carbon dioxide would overwhelm all air-breathing creatures and they would perish because of it.
