The Washington Post ran a recent story by reporter Jonathan Weisman that pointed out that failure by Democrats to respond to voters' anger about illegal Aliens could cause them serious problems at the ballot box next year.

You can read from some of these quotes in a story that began with the example of a really solid Democratic seat being seriously challenged recently by a Republican who stressed toughness on illegal Aliens.

"This issue has real implications for the country. It captures all the American people's anger and frustration not only with Illegal Aliens, but with the economy," said Rep. Rahm Emanuel (Ill.), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and an architect of the Democratic congressional victories of 2006.

"It's self-evident. This is a big problem. ... For the American people, and therefore all of us, it's emerged as the third rail of American politics,"

Republicans, sensing a major vulnerability, have been hammering Democrats, and they just don't get it !!

The liberals whitewash everything and make it a political issue, demean their Commander in Chief, insult the administration and wonder why Fox News is creaming liberal news, yet they continue with stubborn arrogance and accomplish nothing. Nothing. Taxpayers should oust everyone of the loafers.

Keep in mind that this issue cuts both ways and can hurt either party. Republicans were attracting more and more Latino voters up through the 2004 elections, in which they back Kerry over Bush 58% to 40%, compared to Clinton's 72% in 1996. But in 2006, after being turned off by a lot of the nasty rhetoric over this issue, the trend reversed, and Latinos voted 69% Democrat, 30% Republican.

That's a significant erosion in support among an important and growing portion of the electorate. Sixty percent of American Latinos are Mexican, and when they hear ethnic slurs or hateful stereotyping being used by pundits or politicians, they may have a lasting negative impression that sticks at the ballot box. There's a lot of "not getting it" on both sides of the aisle.

These weasels don't get it. Solid proof is with the recent "Dream Act" vote. 52 Senators voting AGAINST the will of the people. I know that they weren't all Democrats because there were some idiot Republicans that voted for it - and some Democrats that listened and voted against the damn thing!

I recently emailed Ms. "Feinswine" about her position about the Dream Act. On the day of the failed vote I got a canned return email that basically restated her position about how this law was needed and that I was wrong.

Even though I know she won't see it, I replied back. I sarcastically thanked her for "voting against the will of the people." I reminded her that she she was sent to Washington to represent us and that she wasn't doing that! WHAT A MORON!!!

No -- Democrats don't seem to get it -- you cannot ignore the wishes of your constituents and keep getting re-elected.

Republicans learned that in 2006 -- but they only lost the people who were in the middle -- they still at least advocate for what their constituents want -- even if they ignore the rest of the country's desires in doing so.

But that's also one reason why many liberals have left the Democratic party -- because the Democratic party has largely abandoned the liberal movement. So it's not appropriate to call most Democrats liberals any more.

I'm glad we don't get "IT," "IT" being the disease of jingoistic sloganeering which attempts to blame the nation's economic malaise on immigrants. Rep. Emanuel is in balance if you read his comments carefully. Lack of an immigration policy is one part of the larger problem. And what caused the problem? A fiscally profligate administration claiming to be Republican! And that pattern was in place without the War on Terror!

And please don't link immigration to 9/11 and homeland security! Guess what? There wasn't one person of Mexican origin among the hijackers, and the persons who carried this out were in the USA on legal (chiefly student) visas.

"A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still." (Benjamin Franklin) Both parties suffer from this problem. Democrats don't get it because they are unwilling to know--rather preferring to just believe whatever they like.
Democrats are kinda of like Parana--they will turn and eat up even its own.
No Amnesty! No National Health care run by the gov't, no no no to more BIG Brother!!

Illegal immigration isn't the problem. It is the symptom.

The PROBLEM is that as a country we do not have a coherent immigration policy and we CAN NOT control our borders.

FIRST we need to form a coherent immigration policy.

SECOND we need the people and resources to implement that policy.

THIRD, we need the processes and resources to enforce the policy.

Until we have a those things, ranting about illegal aliens and/or sending them back will accomplish very little.
