to an extend, it's not about how old. I have some platty babies, around 4 different batches...i do know which batch is which though, some are much bigger than the other and some have a bigger appetite than others and obviously are bigger

the main rule is bigger than the size of the biggest's fishes mouth. I think that depending on what type of molly, you may not even have to catch them...

if you really want an age, i'd say (again depending on the type of mollie and devolpment of the fry) 1-2 months

I wasn't expecting fry and my Platys had some, I didn't have a place to put them and left them to fend for themselves, all survived in a tank full of tetras and cory cats.

its really not a matter of how old they are because they the speed that they grow all depends on what size environment they are in, what they are eating and how often they are eating, and of course water quality. it really all depends on if they are able to fit into another fishes mouth, any fish that can fit another fish in their mouth will and can eat them, so once they are big enough to not be swallowed then it is safe.

After they are 3 or 4 weeks old their bones get too hard for the larger fish to eat them.
