Have there been cases of good major league players who come out of retirement and put up decent numbers? Would the return of Jose Canseco, Nolan Ryan, Fafael Palmeiro, Will Clark, Mark McGwire or Cal Ripken sell tickets?

Canseco will never make it back to the majors because he has been blackballed after his book.
Nolan Ryan? Do you really realize how old he is? He last pitched in the majors in 1994, 13 years ago.
Palmeiro has been stained by illegal drug questions.
Will Clark, as far as I know, has no desire to make a comeback.
McGwire has went into seclusion and as his own statement goes, "I am not here to talk about the past." So why would he even think about trying to play again? Even so, his knees probably wouldn't hold up...
Cal Ripken is probably getting too old to even consider returning. He probably would only return to the Orioles and he isn't going to come out of retirement to be on a losing team. Why should he even consider it? He had a great career and he doesn't need to prove anything to anybody.
Your names are not any good examples of any player who should or want to come out of retirement.

Jose tried to in the early 00's - The White Sox DH, Frank Thomas, was injured so the White Sox picked up Jose from the Atlantic league, I believe it was a team called the Bruins. That was his last time in the Majors. Being a Sox fan - I watch the games, but I was more intent on watching just becouse of Jose. So maybe out of some courosity it may sell tickets, but in the long run I think it hurts baseball.

It doesn't really happen. Sammy Sosa's case (which I'm assuming was the person who inspired this) was unique in that he was young enough to still potentially make an impact. It's rare that a player who puts up numbers like that leaves the game under the age of 35.

None of the players you listed would be at the level to even *make* the team. Most of them retired years too late and all are well over 40. Even Rickey Henderson wasn't enough to help sell tickets when he unretired and made (I think) the Mets.

Canseco played for a bit in an independent league. So has Juan Gonzalez.

But, realistically, no. They're all done. (Ryan is 60, f'goshsakes.)

Now, Rickey Henderson -- there's a guy who is still fit enough to play. :D

Jose Canseco will never be able to come back after his books. Mark McGwire is just too old.

I know Mark... and he wont do it. Jose tried and failed. Rafael is now 42, and won't try. Nolan is what... 50? I wish we could have a 50 allstar team vs the 40 allstar team...

No...they test for steroids now and they most likely wouldn't make it past the first test....and Nolan Ryan? His arm would fall off...look at Schilling's fastball...Ryan's heater is probably about 75 mph nowadays.
