“Hear me lord,” gasped Jeanne, “I’m stuck inside a cloud!”

“Think for yourself,” replied a loud, booming voice from behind a bank of thunderheads, “Isn’t it written in the Scriptures, that I help those that help themselves, something, something…..?” The voice then became drowned out by the sound of a Packers-Vikings game from some titanic TV set behind the clouds.

“Fine,” grumbled the angel, fluttering her wings and adjusting her crooked halo, “Isn’t it a pity that Heaven lacks Triple-A service for wayward angels. If I needed someone, I’d best look elsewhere than the Pearly Gates. Hmph.”

Then a softly, slightly hissing voice came from a brimstone pit far below Jeanne.

“Looking for help?”

“Uhmm, no,” said Jeanne, as the dark, leathery shape of a demon materialized below her. It was Mephistopheles, one of the most formidable soul-stealers in the netherworld.

“I’ve got my mind set on you, Jeanne Hazenbaum,” he said seductively. “Ever since you were a child, you’ve always been let down. By your parents, your teachers, your husband…and now….”

“Uh uh!” blurted Jeanne, “Sorry, Mystical One, but you will NOT have my soul! You must be truly desperate, to seek souls in the afterlife! Not enough among the mortals back on earth?”

A slight glare appeared to erupt momentarily within Mephistophele’s icy black eyes, like a minor eruption of fire, then he smiled again, gesturing towards a hovering portal to Jeanne’s right.

“Behind that locked door, you’ll find that which I have lost,” he began. “Eons again, I bargained my OWN soul and innocence, to my own self indulgence and greed. Only one who is pure and untainted can open that door, and redeem me so that I may once again join the Angels up on high, in the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Jeanne could hardly believe her ears. The Soul Stealer of the Abyss wanted to come back?

“Please, open the door and release my soul, and together we shall rejoice in my long-awaited redemption.”

The angel fretted. She remembered Gabriel’s advice upon her entry into Heaven. “Beware of Darkness,” he had commanded her, “it takes many forms and makes many assurances.”

Then again, thought Jeannie, wasn’t she taught that redemption was possible in anyone? Even someone as ancient and evil as Mephistopheles?

She fluttered towards the portal, and flung it open. A heavy, sweet mist overtook her, and rapturous lights danced before her eyes. Blinded, she groped for a surface, and finally found one. She reclined in a soft chair, arranged with many others along a table.

“Oh dear God, he got you too,” mumbled a voice.

“Whe…where am I?” asked Jeanne, nervously.

“And thank you all very much for coming to our presentation today,” began Mephistopheles, tapping a podium at the front of the room with his inch-long nails, “of course no one is under ANY obligation to buy our discounted time-shares along the shores of Boiling Crimson Lake, but I’m sure after you learn of our generous commodities and convenient payment plan, you too will join thousands of others who are now enjoying their beachfront property.”

“Help!” screamed Jeanne. “Oh Lord, I’d rather be stuck in a cloud again!”

“Fear not, Child,” bellowed a voice from high above. “These time-share presentations have no bearing on your soul….but they do take a while. You should be free to go in say, 3000 years….”

“WHAT?”

“Now let’s look at my PowerPoint presentation”, began Mephistopheles, dimming the lights. Slide Number 1 of 7,899,300,127 lets you examine the north side of the time-shares, which were just given new vinyl siding and fitted with several new appliances which I should get to shortly….”

Jeanne looked at the strained and weary faces circling the table with her. Yes, she’d heard that these presentations could last an eternity, but until now the bewildered angel had only assumed that was a figure of speech……

If I needed someone behind that locked door to help me find that which I have lost, it would be you, oh Mystical one. I have been told "think for yourself" but I got my mind set on you. Isn't it a pity that the others think I have my head stuck inside a cloud, when in fact, my thinking has never been clearer.

I could only manage 8 Oh mystical one..LOL

The battle had moved away from my position, and I was facing a lone Bulger-class fighter. "I got my mind set on you, you alien be-tard!" I yelled. Handgun was warm in my long metal hand, and blazing away. Laserhead was pulsing. I could see the enemy's tracers coming in. A Bulger was the enemy's equivalent of my fighter.

We were both out of missiles, and we'd both blown our distractions, so we were stuck inside a cloud of chaff. SPANG! SPANG! A piece of my left wing blew off. "Not much time to think about that which I have lost, though," I thought to myself. I was still doing all right. If I needed someone to bail me out, well, the radio was close at hand.

"Isn't it a pity we've never seen what an alien looks like?" I'd thought to myself when this encounter started. "Hear me, Lord, let me see the face of the enemy," I'd prayed. With luck or divine intervention, I'd disable the enemy before he disabled me.

It didn't take long. The alien was a better pilot, and his fighter slightly superior, but our a.i. was better. He was drifting in space. I grabbed hold of his access panel, and tore it open, to find, behind that locked door...

He boiled out of the cockpit and grabbed onto my battloid arm. I got him with the other hand, and pointed laserhead at his faceplate. He subsided, stopped struggling.

I couldn't tell much, because of his pneumatic spacesuit, and reflective faceplate. He was humanoid, maybe ten feet tall, and bulky. I was betting that outside of that suit, he'd weigh upward of a thousand pounds.

I thumbed the radio on. "Bridge, I've captured one of the enemy, and you're not going to believe--"

"Tamer! SHUT UP!" shouted the voice of Captain Hayes. "From here on, you say only 'yes' and 'no', you got that?"

"Yes," I replied meekly.

"Bring him in to service lock two, check your fighter's map if you don't know where that is, do you understand?"

"Yes," I answered. I started back toward the mothership, holding the alien by the wrists.

My body shakes in fear as I cry "Hear me Lord, for I need help today. Behind that locked door lies the past for which I have lost. A past which seems to haunt me like a ghost. I can hear my heart beating loudly in my chest. It cries "Beware of Darkness that awaits you!" Someone is knocking at the door, oh Mystical One. Is it you? Do you come to save me from myself? I am strong, but my fear is stronger. If I Needed someone now, Lord, it is you. Give me strength to fight my past and move forward. Give me peace...."
I walk slowly over to the front door. My hand quivers with fear and my eyes are wide with terror. Has my past come to haunt me yet again? Is it the one I have feared all my life coming back to get revenge on my body? I gently grip the door knob and turn it. As I open the door, I see a little child standing at my door with a bag and an anxious smile. Halloween...I hate this time of year. I laugh now at how silly I acted. I let my fear get to me on this cold Halloween night.

Well that was fun!!! I like writing hehehe
