Stop blaming other people for your inability to initiate change. This is a strong indication of low self esteem. Fear looks for irrational excuses that cause unsubstaniated rationalizations (delusional thinking). In this case that people would treat you differently. Change your routine. Meet new people and pick out the qualities in them you desire. Become open minded and learn to listen. Change will come in time as long as your desire remains strong. Yes, sometimes I do. If I take small steps towards improving something I dislike about myself, it would probably go unnoticed by others, but I am the final one to uphold my changes. [If I decided one day, to start judging them... they wouldn't give a hang about what I think anyway, so?]

What other people may think is their own judgemental behaviors. I don't like being judged unless I'm doing a good job at work or parenting. Other than that, I walk proud knowing my worth and I am doing the best that I can and can look at myself in the mirror, regardless of their thoughts/feelings.
Their thoughts don't pay my wages, take away my gray hair nor make me laugh in private thoughts, while reflecting on a great day I've had unless I allow it.

Sometimes I do hate the way I am. I don't understand your point about 'people treating you differently'. If you hate the way you are, than people would probably take it positively that you changed. Unless, those people want to keep you down. Then they don't matter.

NO, I have not but for the grace of God. You asked what I would do if I felt restrained by the way other people treated me and I know that I would have to break free of their hold or I could not breathe emotionally. You have the power to change. Own it.
