There are many places to call. But I would start here:
Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 (SAFE) for advice and help with your escape.
This is good literature for what you do after you call:
The full text of When I call for help: A pastoral response to domestic violence against women is available on the web site of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops www.usccb.org/laity/help.htm. It is also available for purchase
in booklet form, publication number 5-509, from the USCCB Publishing Office, 1-800- 235-8722.
Don't fool around with this, you can loose your life. Don't go back, don't be talked into it. All the promises that they will change will NEVER happen without help.

In the UK I would say go to cab or social services and they would point your friend in the right direction. There are women's refuges springing up everywhere, but I don't know any numbers. What about the local police, they can be helpful. Good luck - tell your friend she is worth better than that and to go for freedom, love from Dot.x.

Every town and city should have a hotline number listed in the Yellow Pages. If not there, each county has a Welfare Office that you can call and they will lead you to the right place. My daughter needed help and I called a local church and they found the correct place for her.

Try your local family services to get in touch with a case manager for domestic violence. Also you can look for your local women's crisis center, usually they will help both men and women that are the victims of domestic violence. ALso ask your church or other churches, sometimes they are affiliated with housing or will help with it. Also look up your local department of housing and shelter they may help place your friend.
Good luck.

Maybe the Red Cross? Or at least they could give some ideas. Or your local Dept. of Human Services, they should be able to tell you for sure. Good luck darling.

If none of the answers you have already gotten help then I would try a local hospital. They can give you information on who to contact.
