There are a handful that have less than 100 left in the wild but there are a large number of species that have less than 1000. Two of the species that you hear about often are the Northern White Rhino and the Amur Leopard. Sadly, there is really nothing that can be done to save the wild populations. With the Amur Leopards if memory serves there are only 3 or 4 know females still left in the wild. Zoos and other facilties are working on breeding programs with these animals but until they can keep poachers away it will be a lost cause.

Overall, due to numbers of different species you will find the most endangered animals with birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, etc. That is not to say that there are not a large number of mammals that are highly endangered, it is just that there are more species found in other groups.

I would think it to be the panda since it's the least adaptable. I actually searched because I wanted to know, but it's hard to find without a list of general endangered species.
