As long as he is a year old he can have whole milk, and stay with that until he is 2. Before a year his stomach is not ready to digest cows milk.

Babies need the cholesterol in whole milk. It coats the nervous system and makes your baby smarter. When your baby turns two, you can switch to 2%. Many older doctors used to recommend that all babies receive 2% milk. Remember the whole cholesterol, heart disease, fat-free diet fad in the 80s? My mom gave me 2% milk when I was 6 months. I survived, but whole milk is recommended for babies.

Whole! It is essential for babies until they're three I think. The fat and nutrients in the milk are needed for brain development and growth. And please don't be stingy! Yes I know milk is expensive but it's so important for their growth at this age. Make milk a priority on your shopping list, not a 'if I have the money'. My in laws actually limit their children's milk intake because 'it's so expensive'. Ask your local health department for a pyramid guide on your child's age for diet and milk intake so you'll know what she's suppose to be getting.

you are suppose to use whole milk. I have a 19 month old and feed him that because they are still growing so fast that they need all the fat they can get.

My babies didn't get ANY cows milk until after they were over a year old. IF you do feed it, make sure it's pasteurized to avoid salmonella and other toxins that are potentially fatal to babies. I wouldn't go near cows milk without your pediatrician's blessing.
Look at all the side-chair pediatricians in here! What a joke.

Whole, until at least 24 months.
I use organic whole. It just makes me feel better about not having hormones/pesticides.
It really makes me laugh when people give a thumbs down to information suggested by the AAP as opposed to information suggested by random myths.
