I think parents who write excuses for their kids skipping school are bad parents--just that. I've cut class a few times, but I would never in a million years ask my mom or dad to write me an excuse for it! They would ground me until I turned 18! On top of that, I'm always scared to death that I'll get caught when I skip! I guess most kids know their parents won't care so that's why they do it. My parents, on the other hand, would care, so that's why I choose to not skip everyday like so many kids I know. I have some friends who skip school and then they come in with a note! It really does amaze me. I personally think they when kids cut class and don't do work, they shouldn't be rewarded and be given extra time to do their work. Its THEIR choice to cut class, but it should be their PARENTS choice to let them deal with the consequences they face at school and espeically the consequences they recieve at home. If your kids don't skip because they know you won't excuse them then you're doing a wonderful job at disciplining your children and I applaud you for that. There are so many mothers why simply don't care. I'm glad to see that you aren't one of them.=)

I'm my last year of highschool I was completely over the whole school thing - my mum knew this and knew that I needed a break from it every now and then - she would ring the school and tell them that I wasn't coming in on that day. If my mum hadn't done this, and had forced me to go to school, or made me face detention for not turning up and het not ringing in, I would have dropped out, and not gotten my university entrance certificate - and therefore not be just about finished my degree!! - school is not as hell-bent important as many parents think - kids DO know what they want the majority of the time - and generally DO have a decent reason behind it!!

When I was in high school, I skipped class constantly. Most of the time I didn't go to school and if I did, I attended only a portion of the classes before saying "**** it." I will never let my child play those kinds of games with their education. After all.. look what it did for me.. I ended up with a G.e.d. and not going to college quite yet.
I agree with you, skipping class is BAD.

They are teaching their kids that you don't have to obey the rules. My parents would NEVER have done this. I skipped class and had to serve every single Saturday school that was offered to have enough credit to pass the class. Each class was 25 dollars. I had to pay for every single one with my own money. In addition to that, I was grounded for having skipped classes. It makes no sense to me. It's kind of like the parents who bail their children out of jail again and again. Let 'em sit in there! They are saying that you don't have to deal with the consequences of your actions, and that is NOT what we need to be teaching our children.

everytime the parent helps them with excuses, the kid will just think it is okay to ditch class. That's totally not okay! When you're not calling in for them with some sort of excuse, you're actually teaching them something. I support you!

My mom never did that. In fact when I cut class and she found out she would see to it that I got detention, and if I didnt get detention Id get grounded.

I would not do it for mine either, These kids are learning that there are not any consequences for their actions. Their parents condone anything that they do. Just remember that you and I are raising responsible children that know right from wrong. They also know that they are responsible for their actions and it is no one else's fault. They will fare much better in life.

I think in the long run that parent is going to look back and see thier child on drugs or something and is going to wish they really cared

It really is pathetic. No one will ever learn by making up excuses period. Nothing is ever fair no matter what, but I always believe they'll get their share sooner or later. ;]
