What's the biggest city between Spartanburg SC and Charlotte NC?

Is there a big city that is close to Charlotte but 30-40 minutes from Spartanburg SC?

would it be too much of a commute to work in Spartanburg but to live in Gastonia or Charlotte?

Gastonia is the biggest but it is almost out of the 30-40 minute range. Gaffney and Kings Mountain are more in line with what you are asking although they are much smaller. I'd take Gaffney and stay in SC, cheaper gas and lower taxes.
